The Highland Bookshop proudly occupies one of the biggest shops in Fort William's bustling pedestrianized High Street. There hadn't been a specialist bookshop in Fort William - ever - until we opened in 2017. As a result of the huge support we have had, we have now doubled our space by expanding into our upstairs floor. The ground floor of the shop hosts an extensive range of titles across all sub

jects including Scottish interest, the outdoors, children's, fiction, as well as all non-fiction areas like history, food & drink. Our first floor is home to our Big Outdoor Lounge, where you can find the largest selection of maps, guides and travel materials in Scotland. There is also a growing selection of stationery and art supplies, as well as our newly expanded Secondhand Books department.

📣 New Event Alert! Award-winning author Susan Fletcher will be joining us to discuss her Highland Bookshop bestsellers. We love her immersive, beautifully written stories, including two favourites set in Glencoe and the Scottish Islands.

Susan will be in conversation with Dr Sally Hughes. There will be a reading, discussion, and the opportunity to ask questions and have books signed.

🎟 Tickets are £5 per person and can be redeemed against any book purchase. Book at www.highlandbookshop.com/events or via link in our bio.

💫Witch Light💫

"One of the best works of historical fiction I've ever read. Set during the Glencoe Massacre, with the only witness accused of being a witch. Deeply evocative of the landscape and writing like no other I've ever read."

🌊Silver Dark Sea🌊

"Set on an unnamed Scottish island the locals find a man with no memory washed up. Heart-warming and beautifully written, this is an incredibly atmospheric story. One of my favourite books set on the islands. Cannot recommend enough!"

🌙The Night in Question🌙

"Our octogenarian heroine’s determination to investigate a violent crime on her doorstep, leads her to reflect on her colourful past of love and loss, in this wonderfully warm and involving page-turner."

August is Women In Translation Month! 🌙 Every August, we like to spotlight incredible books originally written by women in languages other than English, celebrating the writers AND the translators who bring their words to us. Here’s a small selection of some of our faves!

Lost Souls Meet Under a Full Moon by Mizuki Tsujimura (trans. Yuki Tejima)
A moving collection of vignettes about a mysterious “go-between” who arranges one final meeting between the living and the dead. Melancholic and deeply human.

Hooked by Asako Yuzuki (trans. Polly Barton)
A tightly wound novel of fixation and female friendship, from the author of Butter. Sharp, disquieting, and impossible to put down.

The Jaguar’s Roar by Micheliny Verunschk (trans. Juliana Barbassa)
A richly woven novel linking an Indigenous girl’s colonial-era kidnapping with a modern woman’s search for identity. Poetic and resonant.

Bookstore Girls by Kei Aono (trans. Haydn Trowell)
Two clashing booksellers must team up to save their beloved shop from closing. A warm, spirited ode to why bookshops matter 📖
