Most of us own a fleece but are you wearing the right one?

Polar fleece: your all-rounder. Warm, quick-drying, easy to layer.
Tech fleece: tougher outside, soft inside. Perfect for exposed spots.

Love your fleece? Here’s how to keep it cosy for years:

1. Wash on a cool cycle (skip the fabric softener to keep fibres performing)
2. Zip up, flip inside out, and wash to protect zips and logos
3. Air dry when you can, or use low heat if you must tumble dry
4. De-bobble it

Look after your kit, and it’ll look after you!

Most people pick hiking boots backwards. Instead of “Which boot is best?”, ask: “What do I actually need my boots to do?”

If you’re sticking to day hikes on easy trails, you might be wearing more boot than you need. The Salomon X Ultra 5 keeps things light and fast. No extra weight, just confidence.

Heading for rougher ground? The Salomon Quest Echo gives you extra support and protection, without going full backpacking boot.

Carrying a heavy pack or tackling tough terrain? The Salomon Quest 5 is built for big days and big adventures.

The best Salomon boot isn’t the biggest, it’s the one that matches your adventure.

Which one fits your next walk?

Hard or soft? What's best? 🤔 Hardshell jackets are fully waterproof, block the wind, but can feel clammy if you've not opened the vents. Softshell jackets keep out most of the wind, are super-breathable and stretchy, but will soak through in sustained rain.

One's best for storms, exposed ridges and as a winter cover layer, while the other is perfect for hill walks, scrambles and high output days.

Most walkers pack both.

What's your favourite jacket?

Softshell or hardshell? Here’s why most people get it wrong. 🏔️

If the skies are clear and you’re on the move, grab your softshell. It stretches, breathes, and keeps you comfortable mile after mile.

But when the weather turns wild? That’s when your hardshell shines. Fully waterproof. Totally windproof. Maximum protection from the elements.

Think of it this way:
Softshell = comfort and breathability
Hardshell = serious weather defence

Pro tip: Most walkers carry both. Softshell for the climb, hardshell for the storm.
