A new window - celebrating and is a wonderful celebration of Birds. The book highlights 49 species that are on the British red or amber list of declining and endangered birds.
The birdsong you can hear I recorded on a dog walk - the skylark stopped me in my tracks and I was able to watch the athleticism of its throat and chest as it shared its joyful aria.
A bird that always makes me think of one of my all time fav middle grade books The Skylarks War by Hilary McKay ‘Away from the front, where the supply lines ran. . . you could hear skylarks over the fields. Soldiers remarked how strange it was that the birds should be there, but in fact the birds had been there for centuries. The really strange thing was that the soldiers were there.’

Just a regular Thursday evening in .
The queue gets longer every week for .wakelyns and rightly so. And now the interior is so beautiful - filled with stunning flowers, wreaths & displays.
A perfect destination to meet up with a friend and this week we were handed a glass of wine -we took a seat on the bench outside and enjoyed chatting with everyone as they passed by. And then lo and behold this car appeared…. ❤️

Tuesday review from T
True Deceiver, Tove Jansson.
Scandi Noir at it’s finest. Tove is best known for The Moomins but her adult fiction is absolutely well worth a read.
Set in deep winter, in a Swedish hamlet. The village is covered in snow, there is a mysterious young woman who walks through the village with a dog with no name. She has her eye on the odd house at the top of the village. The Rabbit House. In the Rabbit House lives an artist, a recluse, a horder, quietly waiting for spring when she can paint the forest floor again. As Tove moves between the two characters, they become opponents and you begin to wonder who is deceiving who...?
This is a book for those who enjoy the magical world one is deeply drawn into that is Tove Jansson’s signature style.

Poetry Please sessions have been extra special thanks to sharing some of her family treasures.

Holding the ticket for an Emily Pankhurst event I found incredibly moving and then hearing all about the anti suffrage protests that took place - they even created merch 😳 and seeing books filled with thoughts and ideas and opinions - such recent history.

There really is something very special about gathering with others to discuss poetry and books- the breadth of ground that gets covered and the insights and experiences and opinions that people share is quite simply life enriching.

Thank you to everyone who has ever joined us for an evening event and if you haven’t as yet then do keep an eye on our website for what is coming up x
