Glazing dilemma!! I was practicing my carving skills by making these Scandi folk art inspired hanging tiles. I was going to leave them black and grey with a thin coat of clear glaze on top but now I’m wondering if they need pops of colour… what do you think? The clay will fire darker grey in the glaze fire.

Flashback Friday:

It’s been a while since I did one of these posts, but I feel like I’ve found my creative spark again… and my heart is so happy after our wonderful visit to Finland.

Here’s a picture of my very own little island, and the log cabin my Dad built when we were little. This is also where my very first clay memory comes from.

I think it was when my Dad was constructing a little sandy beach where we moored our boat that we discovered some wild clay at the bottom of the lake. I made a little clay tortoise that sat next to the fireplace for many, many years, gaining heat from the fire and staying surprisingly intact.

It wasn’t there anymore when we visited, but all my happy memories were.

In fact, when life got tough, especially as a teenager, I used to go to that cabin by myself and spend days watching the fire and listening to music on an ancient battery-powered radio, until I felt able to face the world again. I miss having that reset button.
