🍓 Sweet of the Week: Raspberry Berries 🍓

Picture-perfect bumps, bursts of flavour and a whole lot of childhood nostalgia.

These little beauties have been a staple of British sweet shops since the 1950s, when confectioners began shaping berry sweets to mimic the real fruit. The distinctive bumpy texture wasn’t just for show; it was designed to catch light and make the sweets irresistible in the shop window.

Whether you loved the tangy black ones or the sweeter red raspberries (or couldn’t choose), these are the sweets that defined a generation of sweet-toothed visits to Nan’s local shop.

Which colour are you reaching for first? 🖤❤️

Few sweets are as quintessentially British as the humble Rhubarb & Custard. These little beauties have been a staple of the traditional sweet shop since the 1950s, inspired by the much-loved British pudding that warmed families through countless winters.

The genius is in the two-tone design that bold tangy rhubarb meets creamy smooth custard in every single bite. A perfectly balanced combination that somehow tastes exactly like a Sunday pudding shrunk down into a boiled sweet. 🫐💛

Rhubarb itself has a fascinating history in Britain it was so prized in the 18th and 19th centuries that it was actually more expensive than cinnamon! By the time the famous Rhubarb Triangle in Yorkshire was producing it en masse, it had found its way into everything including our favourite sweets.

These are the sweets that grandparents kept in a tin on the mantelpiece. The ones you’d fish out of a white paper bag on the way home from school. Some things are just timeless.

Chocolate limes were a clever Victorian invention that combined a sharp, lime-flavoured hard shell with a soft chocolate centre. What makes them even more special: legend has it that these were some of the favourite confectionery of the British Army during World War 2, and they’ve been enjoyed for almost 100 years in the UK and around the world.

The contrast between sour lime and sweet chocolate is surprisingly moreish, and they’ve been a staple of British confectionery culture for over 100 years, frequently found in traditional jars in old-fashioned sweet shops.
