Ahead of our upcoming Solo Exhibition with the fabulous Blythe Scott, we commissioned renowned filmmaker Dominic Clemence to create a short film exploring Blythe’s artistic practice, inspirations and creative process, offering a glimpse into the ideas and stories behind the work.

If you’re looking for a statement piece to transform your home then Gordon Wilson’s ‘Big Hebridean Wash Day’ is one of the best examples of Gordon’s large scale paintings forming part of his ‘My Mind’s Eye’ Solo Exhibition currently showing in the gallery.
Measuring a whopping 151 x 151cm framed, this show-stopping painting captures the expansive landscape of the Scottish Hebrides, easily drawing the viewer into its vastness.
Though it commands the room, there’s a quiet solitude to it and the dusky blue sky leads your eye towards the horizon, where a lone cottage sits in the distance - washing on the line and a small plume of smoke rising from the chimney (or ‘lum’) to show someone’s home.
Miles of rock and sand stretch out before the viewer, creating an extraordinary sense of space, stillness and contented isolation.
It’s been one of the most enjoyed paintings in the show so if you’d like to experience this piece before the exhibition draws to a close, come along and lose yourself in the world of Gordon Wilson…

Small paintings, big presence.

As part of our current show with we’re delighted to have a selection of beautifully intricate small paintings, each expertly mounted and framed by Gordon to make a real impact.

Gordon’s very much a believer that buying a small painting doesn’t have to mean it gets lost on a wall and each of these works more than hold their own on any wall.

Framed as they are, this gives each piece a sense of scale and presence usually associated with much larger paintings - without the larger painting cost!

Striking, detailed and full of character, these little works really do pack a punch.

Come and see them for yourself and you might be surprised by just how much impact a small painting can have.

Our Gordon Wilson show has been a fantastic success and there’s still plenty time to come into the gallery and enjoy the paintings from one of Scotland’s best contemporary artists.
We know however that many of our followers are not close to Glasgow so you can still explore the exhibition with our interactive gallery tour, allowing you to view Gordon’s paintings just as they are installed in the space.

a celebration of the spirited, determined wee old ladies we .

Often found setting off on adventures - in boats, fields and beyond - these spirited, determined wee old ladies are charming characters filled with warmth, humour, personality and stoicism.. .

They also carry a more personal connection, evoking the memory of a grandmother Gordon never had the chance to meet.

Small in stature, never short on spirit and a reminder age is no barrier to adventure…

A fantastic opening yesterday for Gordon Wilson’s ‘My Mind’s Eye’ – his only solo of 2026. We had a great day with Gordon here throughout the day to meet visitors, chat about the work and share the stories behind the exhibition. If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry - ‘My Mind’s Eye’ runs until 27th September, so there’s still plenty of time to come and see it for yourself. A huge thank you to Gordon for filling the gallery with a brilliant new collection of work with the gallery filled with colours, humour and captivating paintings.

Meet Gordon Wilson

We’re delighted to welcome Gordon back to the Annan Gallery this Saturday for the opening of My Mind’s Eye - his only solo exhibition of 2026.

One of Scotland’s most popular contemporary artists, Gordon has spent decades developing his unmistakable style, drawing on the people, places, memories and experiences that have shaped his view of Scotland.

From his much-loved Biddies, Belties and Clyde Puffers to his colourful landscapes and seascapes, Gordon takes the familiar and makes it entirely his own.
His paintings are full of character, humour and emotion - with more than 50 years of memories and observations finding their way onto the canvas.

We’d love you to join us and meet Gordon in person this Saturday from 11am.
