Sometimes plain black is the perfect backdrop to show off natural beauty 🥰

Purple is the rarest colour in butterflies, so the purple spots on the swallowtail look especially vibrant against the black 💜

I'll never get over the glorious iridescence that blue Morpho butterflies have 💙 They shimmer as the light travels across the teeny tiny scales on their wings, and so by changing the angle of incidence you see varying shades of blue! 😊

Even one scale out of place shows up as a dark gap, as it is not the pigment of the scales themselves that create the blue colour, but rather the structure of the scales and how they diffract and reflect the light.
