One of our favourite things about Saola is being able to connect with talented artists that share our passion for sustainability. This Thursday textile artist Eleanor MacDonald (.noraa) will be joining us for an Upcycling and Introduction to Embroidery Workshop (link in bio).
Here is a wee bit about the artist and her studio NORAA, in her own words:
‘I am a textile artist working in fabric illustration and hand-embroidery, using second-hand clothing as the canvas. My work is a documentation of movement through my homeland both physically and mentally, as I am inspired by folklore and the natural world.
What I make is rooted in hand-drawing, having developed my style through various non-conventional methods. I taught myself hand-embroidery, and over the past 2 years have been sharing these skills with others through my job as a textile practitioner.
NORAA centres around second-hand clothing; operating on an acute awareness of the garment industry being the second-largest polluter of our environment. I make things feel like new without the consumption; saving tired pieces perceived to be destined for the bin by making them the canvas for my craft’
