Hello all, Aurore from is back this winter for a new concept, a literary bingo to have fun and win prizes at the wonderful 🃏🎟️❤️

Come celebrate with us! Fellow Edinburgh dwellers, regulars, travellers, friends new & old, booksellers, book readers, wine drinkers, shelf gazers… you are all welcome.

Tills will be open late, books will fill the shelves (assuming the festival crowds don’t demolish us on Saturday). And drinks will be flowing from the police box served by the wondrous who has the good stuff: organic wine, formidable spritzes, local beers (also organic, because this woman cares). Teas, hot chocolates, and coffees too if you need them.

The festival month is coming to an end. It has been beautiful and chaotic and fun. Join us to see out exhausted August.

Thank you everyone for supporting for the last two years and a half, what a journey! 💃🍷📚

It was not always simple but I learnt a lot during this time, persevering no matter the rocky path I was taking, and here I am, when this mini French/Glaswegian enterprise is starting to flourish. It's been truly amazing to meet so many people along the year 2023 at the with the great help of two special persons to me and and their eternal support, they facilitated all the events happening in Glasgow.

The last event in Portobello was also an amazing opportunity to get to know even more book and wine fans and I'd like again to thank for their warmth welcome of La Bonne Excuse, as well as my boss and colleagues of for believing in me and the great promotion in Edinburgh.

But the reality is here, on top of facing a market that is really niche (despite all the beautiful people who ordered boxes and came to the event sometimes twice in a row) I also want to shift my path and focus on core subjects which are keeping me awaken at night.
For years I have been volunteering with organisations to help vulnerable people, especially migrants and asylum seekers, as well as working on climate justice: the emergency is here, we can't deny it, and more than ever with the rise of the far right and racist laws implemented everywhere I want to spend more time planning actions to save what can be saved. I want dignity for all and I don't want to obey absurdly. For this, I need time and join more collectives.

What about ?
I will leave the account open, so please if you have any suggestions don't hesitate to send a wee message. I do not abandon La Bonne Excuse, I put so much effort in this little brand, I just want to shape it in order that my convictions would fit better to the logo.

Consequently I am taking a break from it and will re design it.

Again, it is an emotional decision that has been taken and I deeply want to thank this small community who accompanied me during this French journey.

We do only have 1 box Champagne and 2 boxes with a bottle of Sauvignon blanc by Pascal Gonthier and the beautiful book in English by Philippe Besson.

Thank you all for coming to this glorious night at bookshop on Sunday.
What a night! I hope everyone enjoyed their wines from their cheese by Mellis, bread by , the chocolate by & hummus by me, and all the little products added to make that evening special.

A massive thank you to Kate and Joshua for hosting this event and promotion tirelessly this last month. As well as Amanda for letting us using the café and sourcing the products.
Special mention to Marge and Isabelle without whom I would have been two hours late. What a team!

I think we were all so focused we forgot to document the event. Thanks Kate for getting a few pics.

Unfortunately this wonderful has also been my last. Update will come in a future post.

Our friends of are preparing the best event of November in Glasgow!

A welcome drink is included, and a champagne & wine pairing element is available for each plate.

While dining, you will enjoy an exclusive preview of Anh Hung Tran‘s latest film The Taste of Things, starring Juliette Binoche. The film tells the story of Eugenie, an esteemed cook, and Dodin, the fine gourmet she has been working for over the last 20 years. Growing fonder of one another, their bond turns into a romance and gives rise to delicious dishes that impress even the world’s most illustrious chefs. The film premiered in Competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and received the Award for Best Director.

Diners are welcome to arrive at the venue from 6.30 onward at their leisure, where they will be greeted with a welcome drink and seated comfortably in the cinema room for a prompt 7 pm start.

As usual, six delicious samples of French wine that you can find in La Bonne Excuse's boxes, a journey through French region with presentation of paired books translated in English, George Mewes cheese platters, grapes and marinated olives. Sounds like a glorious way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon right?
