🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 THIS SUMMER, BOSTON FELL FOR SCOTLAND. 💙

Thousands of the Tartan Army arrived for the World Cup and something rather special happened.

Pipes filled the streets. Kilts took over Boston. Friendships were made. And before long, the connection between Boston and Glasgow had become bigger than football, inspiring a new partnership between the cities and even its own tartan. 🧵

It was a beautiful reminder that Scotland’s story stretches far beyond our shores.

And this weekend, we’re coming back to New England. 🥰

🍂 Autumn is truly our favourite season in Scotland.

There’s a quiet kind of magic in the air, the kind that makes you pull your scarf a little tighter, breathe a little deeper, and pause to watch the leaves blaze into gold and crimson. 💙🍁

The Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival is turning 50! 🎉

For half a century, Estes Park has filled with the sound of pipes and drums as people come together to celebrate Scottish and Irish heritage and we’re absolutely delighted to be part of its Golden Jubilee weekend.

From Highland dancing and athletics to Celtic music, clan heritage and, of course, a few Highland coos, it’s going to be a wonderful three days celebrating so much of what we love about Scotland. 🐮🏔️

But the part we’re looking forward to most?

📜 DID YOU KNOW SHETLAND WAS ONCE PAWNED TO SCOTLAND? 👀

It sounds like the beginning of a Scottish legend, but this one really happened.

In 1469, James III of Scotland was preparing to marry Margaret of Denmark. Her father, King Christian I, had promised a substantial dowry but when he couldn’t pay the full amount, first Orkney and then Shetland were pledged to Scotland as security for the outstanding sum.

The plan was that the islands could eventually be redeemed. There was just one rather important problem…

They never were. 😮

The following year, Shetland and Orkney were formally annexed to the Scottish Crown, beginning a new chapter in islands whose Norse heritage can still be felt more than 550 years later.

So while it’s not quite true that Scotland doesn’t fully own Shetland today, the story of how Shetland became Scottish is every bit as fascinating.

A royal wedding, an unpaid dowry and an entire group of islands changing hands…

🇺🇸🇨🇦 TO OUR CLAN ACROSS THE OCEAN, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU. 💙

This Labour Day weekend, we’re thinking of the thousands of miles between Scotland and so many of our Heartboxers across the United States and Canada.

And yet, somehow, Scotland never feels quite that far away. It lives in the family stories passed down through generations. In the tartan whose colours mean something. In the sound of the pipes that makes your heart beat a little faster. In that unmistakable feeling when you catch sight of a misty glen or heather-covered hillside and think, there it is. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Because a connection to Scotland isn’t measured in miles.

For some of you, it’s the place you once called home. For others, it’s where your family story began. And for many, it’s simply a country that found its way into your heart and never quite left.

That connection is at the very heart of what we do at Heartbox. Every time one of our boxes crosses the Atlantic, we get to send a little reminder of Scotland with it, its makers, traditions, stories and all those familiar things that make this wee country so special.

And we never take that privilege for granted. 💙
