📰 We were delighted to be featured in today's Glasgow Times!

A heartfelt thank you to Ann Fotheringham GT for getting in touch after hearing about the history of our building, and for taking the time to tell our story while highlighting the fascinating history of the shop. We're very grateful for such a lovely article. 😊

As many of you know, we've recently taken over the shop as a family business and have been working hard to breathe new life into it. Over the past few months we've invested in new lighting, refrigeration, an expanded product range and other improvements, with plenty more still to come. Alongside this, we're passionate about the history of the building and hope to continue restoring and celebrating its original character through a historically sympathetic approach to the exterior where possible. 🏛️✨

A Trip Back to 1933

Earlier this week, we visited Glasgow City Archives at the Mitchell Library, where the incredibly helpful staff had sourced the original plans and drawings for our building.

Commissioned by Galbraith's Stores Ltd in 1933, these remarkable documents show the design and construction of what is now Day-Today Halfway and the neighbouring shops almost a century ago. The drawings include detailed floor plans, structural drawings and the original front elevation, including the distinctive GS emblem that can still be seen on the building today.

We also had the opportunity to examine valuation rolls from 1935 through to 1975, helping us trace the history of the premises through the decades and learn more about the businesses that occupied the site.

We've arranged for copies of several of these drawings to be professionally printed and plan to create a small display in-store, allowing customers to explore a piece of local history for themselves.

As previously mentioned as part of our refurbishment, we'd like to see elements of the frontage brought closer to their original appearance where practical, in respect to the building's history and character.

If you have any photographs, memories or stories connected to the building, Galbraith's Stores, or the wider Halfway area, we'd love to hear from you. Every contribution helps build a fuller picture of the history of this corner of Glasgow.

A big thank you to the staff at the Mitchell Library archives for finding these documents for us and helping us through the process.

The shelves are filling up! 😊

When we first took over the store, many of the shelves were sitting half empty. Over the past few weeks, we've been working hard to bring in fresh stock, expand our range, and get the shelves filled back up.

Combined with the new lighting, the store is already looking brighter, cleaner and more welcoming for customers.

There's still plenty more planned as the refurbishment continues, but we're really pleased with the progress so far and would love to welcome you in to see the changes for yourself.

More progress underway at Day-Today Halfway! 😊

Over the past week, we’ve installed new shelving, stocked out the shelves, and upgraded the lighting throughout the store to create a much brighter and more welcoming environment for customers.

We’re currently awaiting the arrival of the new refrigeration units before the next phase of works can begin, but there is still plenty more planned as the refurbishment continues.

We’d encourage everyone in the local community to pop in and experience the changes for themselves!
