Aye-Aye Books

Aye-Aye Books Temporary Relocation. Aye-Aye Books has moved from its home at CCA:Centre for Contemporary Arts due to the temporary closure of the venue.

Thanks to the generosity of the Glasgow School of Art we have relocated to GSA's Reid Building, just a short but bracing walk up the hill from CCA. Our aim is to think about the world we live in, how it works, what powers it, who runs it, and how we might need to respond to that. We are a member of the Alliance of Radical Booksellers

Aye-Aye Books has been asked to leave CCA Glasgow.
I was informed of this on 18 July in a long email from the Acting Director of Venue Operations.

Here are the key parts where the decision is explained:
"I therefore feel that in light of these two periods of business interruption for Aye Aye Books, and for your own business planning, that it is inevitable that we review the current relationship between Aye Aye Books and CCA.
Recent events have now accelerated the need for CCA to undertake a period of turnaround and internally we need to take the time that we need to do this, in active discussion with our funders.
That being the case, and for you to be able to plan with more certainty, it is probably sensible to accept that this period of closure marks the end of CCA’s relationship with Aye Aye Books and that CCA hereby gives notice to Aye Aye Books to relocate from the premises."

There was no conversation about our future at CCA before I received this email.

Aye-Aye Books has been at CCA for 17 years, and in that time we have worked with and alongside many good people, starting with Francis McKee, who let us in in the first place. Thank you to everyone.

There are still many excellent people working at CCA who have offered their love and support for Aye-Aye Books. I will miss seeing them.

Most of all, thanks to everyone who came in and bought a book or two.

Aye-Aye books is an independent bookshop whose aim is to think about the world we live in, how it works, what powers it, who runs it, and how we might need to respond to that.
The above information is shared in this spirit, and in the interest of transparency and accountability.

Watch this space for better news about Aye-Aye Books’ future, coming soon…
