performance languages.

Feral are a Glasgow based arts producing house founded in 2015 by Jill Smith and Kathryn Boyle. The duo have a specific interest in developing artists pushing the boundaries of their practice through multi-artform experimentation. Together they produce a portfolio of artists, tour work locally and internationally, organise festivals and develop creative residencies as a way of supporting a diverse

community of independent artists working across contemporary performance, physical theatre, dance and the outdoor arts.

City Festival🕊️

FLOCK is a participatory outdoor dance inspired by urban birds. Up to 30 strangers gather and move as a temporary collective, guided by artist and choreographer Bex Anson and a contemporary ballet dancer. A one-hour pre-show workshop leads into a 20-minute live performance through the Merchant City.

Through playful acts of gazing, perching, darting and soaring, the group becomes a shifting murmuration — a visual poem created in real time by people who have only just met.

Join the pre-show workshop for movement and drawing inspired by birds and public space, or simply watch as the flock gathers, drifts through the city and disperses again.

OUTDOOR ARTS RESIDENCY: SOUTH AYRSHIRE
CLAUDIA ZEISKE: MANY SHADES OF GRAY

Delighted to announce Claudia Zeiske as the recipient of a Feral Outdoor Arts Residency delivered in partnership with South Ayrshire Council. Claudia’s residency takes place along the Carrick coast inspired by geologist Elizabeth Anderson Gray (1831–1924).
Working at a time when women were excluded from scientific societies, Gray spent decades walking these shores in long skirts and sturdy boots, collecting fossils that helped shape understanding of the region’s 450-million-year-old strata. Much of her contribution remained overshadowed in her lifetime.
Walking sections of the same coastline today, artist Claudia Zeiske follows Gray’s spirit of fieldwork — though her long skirt is made of Gore-Tex rather than Victorian wool. Instead of searching primarily for ancient fossils, Claudia is gathering what lies at our feet now. Materials that may one day form a new geological layer — the trace of our own age, a possible “Plastocene”.
Claudia hopes to shape a performance-led walking project along the UNESCO-recognised Carrick coastline (Dunure–Ballantrae- Girvan), bringing these threads together. Her output will also involve the geology collection of The McKechnie Institute, South Ayrshire Council. The culmination of this residency, titled ‘Many Shades of Gray’ will be presented in The McKechnie Institute, Girvan from the 11th – 18th April 2026.

This project is supported through a programme of work delivered by Feral and funded by Creative Scotland. Supported by South Ayrshire Council. Feral’s outdoor arts residency programme is aimed at Scotland based artists interested in developing outdoor or site-specific performance projects responding to landscape.

📣Galoshans Festival nominated for a SURF Award!

We are so delighted that Galoshans Festival has been shortlisted in the Creative Regeneration Category at the SURF Awards! The SURF Awards celebrates excellence, innovation and best practice in community regeneration. Highlighting the role that regeneration projects have in improving the wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Feral have been lucky enough to collaborate with lead festival partners RIG Arts on the previous 4 editions of the festival to bring a strand of programming that foregrounds contemporary performance and participation across outdoor, community and site specific locations in Inverclyde.
