Let’s talk front plate setup

Over the years I’ve ran TQs, PTTs, hydration tubes and clip on petzls on my shoulder straps over the years. However the more I drill on the flat range with my plates on, the more instances I have where I’m having to adjust stock placement mid rep to get solid contact and cheek weld.

Then adding a day sack and sling when I’ve got various kit on my shoulder straps, stuff gets caught, hot mics on PTTs etc.

For now, I’ve moved everything away from my shoulders onto the front of my plate and support side which seems to be working well.

The Onward Research placard gives me a lot of flexibility for mags, bangs, chem lights, cuffs, TQs - whatever I need. Below that I’ve got a GP dangler, and again depending on specific job requirements I’ll have dems kit, food, smokes or whatever else I need.

Backpanels:

I tend to avoid running a hydration bladder directly on my rear plate - I find the drinking tube gets in my way and refilling requires me taking my plates off. If I’m running a bladder, I’d prefer it in a day sack.

Next, GP pouches - any kit I’d carry in a GP, is kit I need. Ideally I want to be able to access that without help, in the dark, quickly and quietly. For this reason, now any GP kit I’ll run on a dangler or cummerbund GP.

That leaves my back panel with really one purpose - to provide quick access to kit for others or store non-essential kit like an extra layer. I’ve settled for now on two vertical strip pouches for slap charges or a pry bar for breachers on the team to access quickly if needed.

I can also pull a day sack on over this without issue if necessary for SSE or warm/wet kit.

Functional Fitness

It’s straightforward to train 3-5 times per week, hit my compound lifts, SBD, achieve progressive overload etc.

But a fitness standard should exceed just strength and endurance, Im looking for function, coordination, precision. I want to be more well rounded.

To achieve this I’ve re-introduced climbing, bouldering, Muay Thai and sprints into my weekly split alongside strength and hypertrophy training.

In my climbing sessions I don’t climb above 6a+, (I’m not trying to achieve excellent technical proficiency) I’ll hit 5-10 boulders, followed by 5 climbs on the high wall.

So far it’s feeling great.
