🚲 Got a bike you’re no longer using? Give it a new life!

Donated bikes are a huge part of what we do at Bike for Good. Our team and volunteers refurbish them, helping us provide affordable bikes, support our community programmes and keep more bikes in use and out of waste.

One of long-term volunteers Martin is fundraising for !

Martin has spent over 12 years helping refurbish bikes and supporting more people to cycle through Bike for Good. And now he's taking on his biggest challenge yet.

He'll be cycling 60 rides of 60km to raise money for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland after his own experience of being diagnosed with hydrocephalus as an adult following a cycling accident.

Cycling became an important part of Martin's recovery and wellbeing, and now he's using it to give back to a charity that means so much to him.

Every kilometre ridden helps to raise awareness and vital funds!

If you're able to, please consider supporting Martin's challenge!

Good luck, Martin, we're all cheering you on! 🧡💚🚲

We recently had the pleasure of running a 'bike bus' at the Merchant City Festival. A 'hop-on hop-off' service scuttling about between the artwork installations, performance pop-ups, poetry readings and just a sprinkling of new cycling infrastructure chat. Art in public space asks us to reimagine ways of seeing, moving and interacting in the city, which is something cyclists can sympathise with, especially during Glasgow's Avenues project.

Pt. 2 of our Gumtree saga.
Here Chris gives a quick assessment of the bike and everything wrong with it as well as an estimate of how much it would cost to make it roadworthy again.
Bear in mind this is already after Iona had spent £50 and two hours working on the drivetrain.

PSA for all those buying second hand bikes in Glasgow at the moment. It's come to our attention that someone has been taking condemned bikes from our scrapheap that we have deemed irreparable and immediately listing them on Gumtree as 'refurbished'.

Beyond the safety concerns of this, the seller is using some pretty nasty intimidation tactics to force the sale.

A few bike shops have now mentioned to us that they too have been seeing customers come through the door with 'refurbished' bikes sold by this specific seller, and they're always in tatters.

Sometimes you can get an absolute bargain on gumtree or Facebook marketplace, but it's sadly true that there are real horror stories out there as well.

If you're looking to buy a second hand bike there are so many charities, artisans and workshops in Glasgow doing outstanding work. Prices might be marginally higher, but you will have working brakes.

Thankfully we got Iona a stunning Ridgeback using SPT's Access to Bikes fund before injury or another £200 was forked out.
