Word Of The Week Wednesday!

At GET Free Books Glasgow, we are very passionate about making books and education accessible to all.

Our volunteers are all avid readers, and come across a lot of interesting words in the books they read. So we thought we’d share a new word every week to encourage our fellow readers to expand their vocabulary.

Learning new words can help your communication skills, sharpen your critical thinking, and overall improve your literacy. Which means you’ll be able to read more and more books!

Contempt

Definition: -

A feeling that arises from regarding someone of something with disgust or disregard.

Example: -

The reader felt a large amount of contempt for the villain.

Our shop has been so busy these past few months that it has been a while since we did an update on our Community Recommendation Wall!

Although it is a few months late we can very happily announce that when we asked you back in May who your favourite author was, you all said… Roald Dahl!!!

Roald Dahl is a very frequent flyer in GET Free Books! But he goes back out as quickly as he comes in so we were very lucky to get a picture of this stack.

Just to let everyone know, unfortunately we can not do collections as we don’t have access to a van or many volunteers who are trained in going out to houses and things like that. We are really sorry it’s just not something we can provide. However we can accept deliveries you’ll just need to reach out to us to arrange in advance!

Our Children’s, Middle Grade & Young Adult sections are our most in demand sections at the moment! It makes all of us here at GET Free Books Glasgow so incredibly happy to see so many young people enjoying browsing our shelves.

We are calling on all of our visitors to share this post to as many people as they can in the hopes that we can get in enough books to keep our young readers engaged with reading all summer.
