Not every floor we fit is straightlay…

Over the years we’ve fitted some pretty unusual floors — different patterns, , shapes, colours and ideas that you don’t see every day.

From intricate designs and awkward spaces to floors that needed a bit more thought than simply laying it down, these are some of the more obscure jobs we’ve had the pleasure of working on.

And that’s one of the best things about flooring — there’s nearly always a way to make an idea work.

We fitted Invictus LVT through the hall, carefully joining into the existing bordered and herringbone floor in the kitchen.

The hall also had a painter and decorator’s idea of a plywood subfloor to deal with first 😂 — so there was a bit of preparation needed before we could get started.

Once everything was sorted, the new flooring was laid through the hall and joined into the existing kitchen floor, keeping the same style and finish throughout.

You’d struggle to tell where the old floor ends and the new one begins — exactly how it should be.

A cracking combination on this one

The stairs have been finished in Axminster Modern Classics Houndstooth, giving the staircase a proper bit of character without going over the top (of the riser).

Up on the landing and through the bottom hall, we’ve fitted COREtec Rabat 94, creating a hard-wearing, practical floor that ties the whole space together.

Different flooring for different areas, but everything working together nicely.

300mm wide longboard engineered wood, fully bonded through an open plan space. Aged and distressed finish.

Wide board engineered done properly is one of those floors that looks like it's always been there. The fully bonded fit keeps it stable, keeps it quiet, and keeps it flat — no movement, no noise, no compromise.

This one will outlast most of what's around it.

Living room, kitchen and utility all laid in Berry Alloc Chateau Texas Light Brown herringbone.

Warm, natural, and consistent throughout — Texas Light Brown is one of those colours that works with almost anything and dates nothing. The herringbone pattern gives an open plan space like this its own character without trying too hard.

Sometimes the job is straightforward and the carpet does the talking. Rich, dark, and built to last — Woodland Twist is a reliable choice that never looks cheap.

It’s only a staircase… how hard can it be?

This is something we hear surprisingly often — because to the untrained eye, a staircase can look like a small amount of carpet and therefore a quick, simple fit.

Look a little closer…

Double bullnose, three turns, mid landing, top landing with balustrades running down into the floor.

The result? 3½ hours of skilled fitting.

Technically, on size that's a minimum fit — but the amount of carpet used doesn't tell you how much skill, precision and time is involved in installing it properly.

A living room might use considerably more carpet, but a straightforward rectangular room is far easier to fit than a complicated staircase.

Staircases aren't priced purely by square metre — they're about the complexity of the job and the craftsmanship required to get the finish right.

Because when it comes to stairs, there really is nowhere to hide a mistake.

Open plan living room, kitchen and dining room all laid in Amtico Form Ammonite Stone herringbone.

Open plan spaces live or die by the floor. Get it wrong and the rooms fight each other. Get it right and the whole space breathes. Herringbone through all three areas ties everything together without a single threshold strip breaking the flow.
