Time for a little celebration at the end of our first year (10 months) of trading!
Well it's far to say that expectations have been well and truly surpassed! When I started this little venture back in May last year it really was just to try and upgrade my collection as cheaply as possible and help fund the purchase of the more expensive hardbacks I need to complete that element of my set. Mission well and truly accomplished!
What I hadn't factored in was the demand for quality post-war editions and just exactly how big a gap in the market I would be filling. I've just completed the numbers for the year and so thought I'd share some of the headlines below:
Individual books sales - 885
Complete post war sets - 2
Starter sets (35-40 books) - 13
Sets to fill gaps in collections - 13
Total number of books sold in 10 month - 1,671
Given that the focus is on post-war, I still managed to find homes for 65 earlier editions I'd picked up, the earliest from 1903 and although not a focus, customers are also coming to be for quality linen (soft cover) edition as well.
I've attached a few pictures here including one of my current set but mainly they are a timeline of the changes here at The Badger Sett - Home of The Somerset Badger and over 300 hardback Wisdens from a hastily cobbled together storeroom to an office full of storage crates and now, finally to nicely shelved and organised set up where we have everything to hand.
If you've read this far then thank you - please share this to anyone who may have an interest in Wisden collecting, particularly in the south and south west as we can host viewings by appointment or arrange video calls to suit enabling you to really see copies before you commit to buying them.
Finally, a massive thank you to Chris Ridler from WisdenAuction.Com & Wisdens.Org who's help and advice has been invaluable - cheers Chris!
