🩷💙 7PM — OUR CANDLES ARE LIT 💙🩷

Our candles are now glowing for Kalib and for every baby who couldn’t stay. 🕯️

The photo on this post is actually from a previous Wave of Light. I’m currently taking some proper time off work to enjoy family time, so I scheduled my Baby Loss Awareness content in advance — but wherever we are tonight, Kalib’s candle is lit. 💙

And sadly, the candle in this photo couldn’t make another appearance anyway!

We had used the same candle and Christmas bauble every single year since Kalib was born. They became two of those little things that were just his and came out year after year.

Then, devastatingly, we lost them both last year.

First, Delilah knocked his bauble off the Christmas tree and smashed it — because little ones will be wild and all. 🙈😂 I was absolutely gutted, but these things happen.

Then on Kalib’s birthday, his candle jar randomly shattered all by itself.

Honestly, it was almost as if he was saying:

“Well, you bought them together… you can replace them together.” 😂💙

Sometimes you need to find a little humour amongst the sadness.

So this year we have new ones, but the tradition remains exactly the same.

At 7pm, we light a candle and say his name.

Tonight, thousands of other families are doing the same, creating a Wave of Light for babies who are loved, remembered and forever part of their families.

If your candle is glowing tonight, please feel free to leave your baby’s name below or tag AKA Designs in your photo. 🩷💙

Tonight mine shines for Kalib.

Almost 16 years later, his name is still spoken, his traditions continue and his place in our family remains.

Forever our baby. Forever one of my four. 🕯️💙

🩷💙 TODAY IS THE WAVE OF LIGHT 💙🩷

Tonight, 15th October at 7pm, I’ll be lighting a candle for my beautiful Kalib. 🕯️💙

And I’d love as many of you as possible to join me.

At 7pm, families across the country will light candles in memory of babies who died during pregnancy, at birth or after birth, creating a beautiful Wave of Light.

You don’t have to have experienced baby loss yourself to take part.

🕯️ Light one for your own baby.
🕯️ Light one for a friend or family member’s baby.
🕯️ Light one for every baby who couldn’t stay.

For me, tonight’s light will be for Kalib.

With his 16th birthday coming in January, this year feels particularly significant. He should be here growing into a young man, yet tonight I’ll light a candle and wonder, as I have so many times, who he would have become.

If you’re joining in tonight, please take a photo of your candle and tag AKA Designs. I’d love to share as many as possible and fill our page with lights for all of these very loved babies. 🩷💙

And if you’re comfortable, add their name too.

Throughout October, 50% of all candle and memorial-item sales is being donated to Sands as part of our fundraising in Kalib’s memory.

You can also donate without purchasing via PayPal:

So tonight at 7pm, wherever you are, light a candle with us.

For the babies we carried.
For the babies we miss.
For the lives we imagined.
For the names we'll never stop saying.

Tonight, we light the darkness together. 🕯️🩷💙

Who are you lighting your candle for tonight?

🩷💙 So tiny, yet so perfectly formed. 💙🩷

This is one of our smallest remembrance pieces, but probably one of the most meaningful.

Our Precious Baby ornaments are incredibly small and detailed, representing those tiny babies who arrived far too soon. 👣

So many babies lost during pregnancy are absolutely tiny, especially those born prematurely, but that doesn’t make them any less our babies. Tiny hands, tiny feet, little fingers and toes — fully formed little people who were loved beyond words.

Having Kalib at just 21 weeks, I know that personally. He wasn’t much bigger than my hand and his feet were around the size of the tip of my pinky, but he was still my perfectly formed little boy. 💙

That’s what I see when I look at these.

Not simply a baby ornament, but a reminder that small doesn’t mean insignificant.

Our Precious Babies are made to order especially for you, so you can choose the colour and finish that feels right for your baby.

💙 SANDS FUNDRAISING 💙

Throughout October, 50% of sales from all our remembrance items and candles will be donated to Sands as part of our Baby Loss Awareness Month fundraising in Kalib’s memory.

With his 16th birthday approaching in January, I want to make this year’s fundraising our biggest yet.

For all our precious babies who may have been incredibly small, but who left a space in our families that could never be measured by their size. 🩷💙

🩷💙 A little way to keep their name close 💙🩷

For Baby Loss Awareness Month, I wanted to share one of our personalised memorial pieces that is especially personal to me.

Our angel wing memorial hearts can be personalised with the name of your baby or loved one and are available in blue, pink, silver or gold. 👼🏻

The one pictured is, of course, for my beautiful Kalib. 💙

I’ll be taking this one with us at Christmas and hanging it beside his name on the memorial stone. We visit every Christmas, and having something new made especially for him to leave there feels like another little way of including him in our family’s Christmas.

Because even after all these years, he is still one of my children. He still gets included. His name still gets spoken. And he is still loved.

💙 FUNDRAISING FOR SANDS 💙

Throughout October, 50% of sales from all our memorial items, including these hearts, plus our candles, will be donated to Sands.

January marks what should have been Kalib’s 16th birthday, and this year I want to make our fundraising in his memory bigger than ever.

I’d love to reach January and be able to say:

“For your 16th birthday, look what we did in your name, Kalib.” 💙

You don’t need to purchase to support us either. Donations can be made via PayPal:

💙 [email protected]
Please use “SANDS donation” as the reference.

Even sharing this post helps us reach more people. 🩷💙

For Kalib, for every baby who couldn’t stay, and for every family who continues finding their own ways to include and remember them.

🩷💙 A little something special to hang in their memory 💙🩷

These personalised remembrance baubles are another item that holds a very special meaning for me — the one pictured was made for Kalib. 💙

Each clear bauble is filled with soft feathers and little crystals, then personalised with your chosen name to create something you can bring out year after year.

They’re available as standard in blue or pink, but if there’s another colour that means something to you, please just ask before ordering and I’ll do my best to make it in your chosen colour. 🩷💙

They can be hung on your Christmas tree, displayed somewhere special at home or taken to a memorial — however feels right for you.

For families affected by baby loss, Christmas can bring such mixed emotions. As your family grows and traditions change, there’s still that little space belonging to someone who should be there.

For me, putting something with Kalib’s name on our tree has always been one of the ways I make sure he remains part of our Christmas. 🎄💙

And this October, purchasing one also supports our Sands fundraiser.

🕯️ 50% of all sales from our memorial/remembrance items and candles throughout October will be donated to Sands.

With what should have been Kalib’s 16th birthday coming in January, I’m determined to make this year’s fundraising in his name our biggest yet.

You can also donate without purchasing:

Because sometimes something as simple as hanging their name on the Christmas tree can mean absolutely everything.

🩷💙 Sometimes the smallest things hold the biggest meaning. 💙🩷

Our angel wings are another of the remembrance items included in our Baby Loss Awareness Month fundraiser for Sands. 👼🏻

We currently have them ready-made in pink, blue, silver and gold, or they can be made to order in ANY colour if you’d like something more personal or a colour that holds a special meaning for you.

Hang them on a Christmas tree, somewhere special in your home, beside a photograph or memorial, or simply keep them somewhere that means something to you.

They don’t need a name written across them to tell a story. Sometimes seeing a little pair of wings is enough to know exactly who they represent. 🩷💙

Almost 16 years after losing Kalib, I still find new ways to include him in our home, our Christmases and our family.

Because remembering our babies doesn’t have an expiry date.

💙 FUNDRAISING FOR SANDS 💙

Throughout October, 50% of all sales from our memorial/remembrance items and candles will be donated to Sands, helping support families affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

You don’t need to purchase anything to help either. Direct donations can be made via PayPal:

Whether you purchase a little pair of wings, donate £1 or simply share our fundraiser, every bit helps towards that total.

My goal is to reach January and be able to say:

“For your 16th birthday, look what we did in your name, Kalib.” 💙

For Kalib, and for every little pair of wings representing a baby who will always be loved. 👼🏻🩷💙

🩷💙 50% DONATED TO SANDS THIS OCTOBER 💙🩷

Throughout Baby Loss Awareness Month, 50% of every sale of our memorial items and candles will be donated to Sands.

This fundraiser is incredibly personal to me.

In January, my beautiful Kalib should be celebrating his 16th birthday. Instead of planning the huge milestone birthday a 16-year-old deserves, I’m left wondering what he would be like now and who he would have grown into. 💙

So I want to make this year count.

I want to take the love I still have for my son almost 16 years later and turn it into something that can help other families experiencing the unimaginable.

Every memorial item purchased during October counts.
Every candle counts.
Every donation counts.
And every share helps us reach someone else. 🕯️

You do not need to purchase anything to contribute to our fundraising total.

Direct donations can be sent via PayPal:

Even £1 matters. It all adds up.

My goal is simple. When January arrives, I want to look at what we've raised and be able to say:

“For your 16th birthday, look what we did in your name, Kalib.” 💙

So please shop, donate, share or simply help us spread the word.

For Kalib.
For every baby who couldn't stay.
For every family who has had to learn how to carry that love differently. 🩷💙

Let's make this one MASSIVE.

💙 These are Kalib’s feet. 💙

He was born at just 21 weeks gestation. He wasn’t much bigger than my hand, and his feet were around the size of the tip of my pinky. Tiny, yet compared with the rest of him they looked massive. 🥹 I remember thinking he was definitely going to have huge feet.

One thing I don’t have to wonder is who he looked like. He was the absolute double of Leo — just with no hair. 💙

Leo was only 18 months old, and part of my grief has always been grieving the bond those two little boys should have had.

Because baby loss isn’t only grieving your baby. It’s grieving an entire lifetime that should have happened.

I found out I was pregnant with Demi around a week or so before Kalib’s due date. I’m truly blessed to have her, and I know without the tragedy of losing Kalib, I wouldn’t have her.

But grief isn’t logical.

I’ve still imagined a world where somehow all three could have grown up together. Even if that meant 3 under 3 or 4 and absolute chaos, I’d have welcomed every second of it.

I’ve imagined Leo and Kalib’s bond. Kalib and Demi growing up so close in age. The arguments, laughter, birthdays and Christmas mornings.

Then years later came Delilah. By then Kalib would have been the grown-up big brother, and I’ve imagined their relationship too.

I’ve imagined every one of those sibling bonds.

You don’t only miss the person who should be here. You see all the spaces they should occupy within the family that continued growing without them.

January should be Kalib’s 16th birthday, so I want this year’s fundraising in his name to be our biggest yet. 💙

Throughout October, 50% of sales from our memorial items & candles goes to Sands.

I want to reach January and say, “For your 16th birthday, look what we did in your name, Kalib.”

Baby Loss Awareness Month isn’t only remembering how our babies died. It’s remembering that they lived — and all the life and love they should have had. 👣💙

🩷 OCTOBER HOLIDAY REMINDER 🩷
Just a wee heads-up that I’ll be taking some proper time off over the October holidays this year 🍂
The shop will be CLOSED 12th–25th October, but more importantly, I’m actually going to try something I’m notoriously terrible at…
Completely switching off from work. 😂🙈
📦 ORDER CUT-OFF: Wednesday 7th October at 2pm
Any orders placed after 2pm on the 7th will not be processed until I’m back after the holidays. The website will still be there happily accepting your orders — I just won’t be at the other end making them 😂🩷
I’m giving myself those two weeks to properly step away from AKA Designs and hopefully come back feeling a little less stressed, overwhelmed and running on empty.
Whether relaxing is actually possible while being an ADHD mum, with an autistic teenager and one VERY crazy toddler, during two whole weeks with absolutely no normal routine is another question entirely… 😂😂
So maybe “rest and recharge” is slightly ambitious. “Not adding running a business into the chaos” is probably a more realistic goal. 🤣🙈
I’ll be back after the holidays ready to throw myself straight into the absolute madness that is the run-up to Christmas 🎄🎁 — so I’m taking the opportunity to switch off while I still can!
Thank you as always for understanding that behind AKA Designs is one woman juggling a business, kids and everything else life decides to chuck into the mix 🩷
📦 Order cut-off: 7th October, 2pm
🔒 Closed: 12th–25th October
🩷 Orders after the cut-off: processed when I return
