I know a few of people have been curious as to how I make my paper for the Christmas tags. So here's the process!
I start off by putting paper shredding a and water in the blender and blend it up. Then I add the mix to a tub filled half way with water to make a slurry and stir it together. Next, I use a device called a 'deckle' which is two wooden frames, one with a metal mesh stapled to it. I then dip the deckle in the paper and water slurry and allow the water to drain out. I carefully take the top frame off to reveal the paper shape. After this I get a sheet of greaseproof paper and place it on top and sponge the excess water out. The deckle then gets flipped upside down and the paper removed from the mesh. Next, the paper is transferred to a baking tray and baked at 150°C for around 15 minutes or until bone dry. The paper curls in the oven and becomes misshapen, so I stak them up and place something heavy on top to flatten them out.
