🌳 A BIG DATE FOR THE HUMBLE WOODSHED! 🌳

I'm really excited to announce that this October I'll be exhibiting at the Cotswold Life Home & Gift Show at Cheltenham Racecourse — my biggest show to date!

Over the next few weeks I'll be busy in the workshop creating a collection especially for the show, including statement clocks, handcrafted furniture and unique pieces for the home.

And I'm doing things a little differently...

The collection I'm creating for the show won't be available on my website or in the gallery beforehand. Visitors to Cheltenham will be the first to see — and have the opportunity to buy — these new pieces.

📅 2–3 October 2026
📍 Cheltenham Racecourse

I'll be sharing some behind-the-scenes glimpses as the collection comes together, although I might have to keep one or two surprises for the show! 😃

WHEN MY SISTER HAS AN IDEA… 😂

A few weeks ago, my sister showed me her plans for a media wall and asked whether I could turn them into reality.

Naturally, I said yes—before fully appreciating quite how many pieces of MDF, lengths of pine and coats of paint would be involved! 🤣

Thankfully, this was very much a family effort.

My sister took on the roles of boss, designer and painter, while my brother-in-law became second in command—whenever permission was granted—and joined the painting department! 😂

Jamie, my niece’s boyfriend and the electrician of the team, installed all the lights and sockets before mounting the TV, speakers and soundbar. The lighting has completely brought the finished wall to life, and he has done a brilliant job. www.pitcherelectricalservices.co.uk

Then there was my wonderful 89-year-old dad—my hero, best friend and the man who has inspired me throughout my life. At 64 years old, being able to continue working alongside Dad is something I never take for granted. It remains an honour, and having him involved made this project even more special.

And finally, there was little old me—the one responsible for working out how to turn the boss’s ideas into something that would stand up, fit the room and hopefully resemble her original vision! 🪚😂

The media wall was built mainly from 18mm MDF, finished with 9mm pine edging and oak acoustic panels. It includes built-in shelving, cupboards, concealed electrics and integrated lighting—plus more preparation, sanding and painting than any of us care to remember!

It was quite an undertaking, but seeing the finished room made all the hard work worthwhile. Most importantly, my sister is delighted with it, so I’m pleased to report that the boss has officially approved the job! 😀👏🏻

A proper family project—and one that Mr Under-Confident is actually rather proud of!

🌳 Sometimes, nature has the final say... 🌳

One of my handcrafted cedar side tables recently came back to the workshop after a natural split appeared in the timber.

It got me thinking...

It doesn't matter how dry you think a piece of timber is, nature still has the final say!! 🤣

Wood is a wonderful natural material. It moves, settles and occasionally surprises us, even long after we think it's finished. That's part of what makes every piece completely unique.

Rather than replacing the table, I wanted to restore it properly.

That meant carefully removing the damaged area, crafting new Australian Red Cedar bowties, adding fresh black resin to strengthen the split, and then hours of sanding and refinishing to blend everything back together.

The result?

A repaired table that's every bit as beautiful as before and ready to be enjoyed for many more years.

For me, handcrafted furniture isn't just about creating something beautiful—it's also about standing behind the pieces I make. If one of my creations needs a little extra care, it comes back into the workshop where it belongs.

I'm delighted to say it's now ready to be reunited with its owner later this week.

Sometimes the best stories aren't about making something new...

They're about giving something you love a new chapter. 🌳

🎉 The Drum Table Collection has now completely sold out! 🎉

Today I'm delighted to say that the last of my handcrafted Sonor Drum Tables has found its forever home, purchased by a customer visiting Made in Ross.

What makes this even more special is that another of the collection recently travelled to its new home in North Wales. It's a wonderful feeling knowing these unique pieces are now being enjoyed in different parts of the country.

When I first came across these beautiful old Sonor drum shells, I knew they deserved a second life. After many hours of designing, resin work, woodworking, sanding (lots of sanding! 😄) and finishing, each one became a truly unique piece of functional art.

As a one-man workshop, moments like this mean so much. Every comment, share, recommendation and purchase helps The Humble Woodshed continue doing what I love – creating one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of wood.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported my journey, whether you've bought a piece, visited me at Made in Ross, followed my page or simply shared my work with others. Your support genuinely means the world to me.

With the Drum Table Collection now complete, it's time to head back into the workshop. I've already got a few exciting ideas brewing, and I can't wait to share what's coming next!

Thank you all once again. 🌳

Last week’s heatwave had me thinking… perhaps standing by the lathe in the shed might actually feel a little cooler than everywhere else. 😄

How wrong I was! 🥵

Even so, I managed to turn out these three little beauties — a new collection of handcrafted wooden bud vases, each individually made here in The Humble Woodshed.

Each vase includes a removable glass tube, making them perfect for fresh buds with water or equally beautiful for dried flowers.

This first collection includes:

🌿 Spalted Beech – full of stunning natural character and dramatic spalting lines
🌿 Yew – warm golden tones with beautiful flowing grain
🌿 Flame-Finished Pine – carefully scorched to enhance the grain and create a striking rustic finish

I love how each timber brings its own unique personality — no two pieces will ever be the same.

These are now available both in Made in Ross and on my website.

As always, handmade with care in my Gloucestershire workshop.

Thought I’d share the latest additions to my River Flow collection 😊
These two latest pieces are handcrafted from beautiful yew and inspired by the rivers that shape our local landscapes around Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
One wall clock and one mantel clock, both featuring flowing emerald green resin rivers, brass rod markers and silent sweep movements.
I always enjoy working with yew. The warmth, colour and grain patterns are stunning, and no two pieces are ever the same.
What started as a simple idea with reclaimed oak is slowly growing into one of my favourite collections.
I’m really pleased with how these latest yew versions have turned out.
Wall clock or mantel clock… which is your favourite? 😊

Amazing what can be created from an offcut of reclaimed oak kitchen worktop.

Following on from my recent River Flow wall clock, I’ve now completed the matching mantel clock — handcrafted from the same reclaimed solid oak and inspired by the beautiful rivers that shape our local landscape here in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.

The flowing emerald green resin river contrasts beautifully against the natural oak grain, while inset brass rod markers and black spade hands add a clean contemporary finish.

I love taking timber that might otherwise be discarded and giving it a completely new purpose.

This smaller mantel version sits perfectly alongside the larger wall clock as part of my new River Flow collection.

Handcrafted in my Gloucestershire workshop using reclaimed oak, resin, brass and plenty of patience!

What do you think — wall clock or mantel clock… which is your favourite? 😊

Amazing what you can do with an offcut of an old kitchen worktop! 😊

This latest wall clock started life as a piece of reclaimed solid oak that would otherwise have been discarded. After a bit of imagination, some careful craftsmanship and a flowing emerald green resin river, it's been transformed into something completely unique.

Inspired by the beautiful rivers that run through Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, the design features inset brass markers, gold spade hands and a silent sweep movement.

One of the things I enjoy most about what I do is seeing the potential in pieces of timber that others might overlook. Every grain pattern, knot and feature becomes part of the finished story.

Handcrafted in my Gloucestershire workshop and now available on my website.

What do you think of this one?

One of the things I enjoy most about working with timber is uncovering the beauty that's already there.

This new coffee table began as a striking piece of ash with flowing grain, natural knots and hidden character just waiting to be revealed. Rather than overpowering those features, I carefully enhanced them with electric blue resin, creating subtle highlights that draw the eye while allowing the timber to remain the star of the show.

The result is this one-of-a-kind coffee table, handcrafted in my Gloucestershire workshop and finished by hand with Odie's Oil to bring out the warmth and depth of the grain.
