LET’S TALK ABOUT BABY TREVOR! 🐢

Since we’ve had so many new followers recently and so many of you now come into the shop specifically to see Baby Trevor 😂 we thought it was time to share a few facts about our little superstar! 💙

Baby Trevor is a Fly River Turtle, also known as a Pig-Nosed Turtle (Carettochelys insculpta)… and he’s definitely not your average turtle!

✨ A few facts about Baby Trevor

🍇 His favourite fruits are grapes and plums definitely the quickest way to his heart

👀 He LOVES attention… but only on his terms. He’s incredibly nosey and loves seeing what everyone is up to, but he can also be quite shy.

🪨 When he’s had enough of people, he disappears behind his rock. That’s his favourite sleeping and hiding spot when he wants some peace and quiet.

🐽 That nose isn’t just cute!
They get the name “Pig-Nosed Turtle” from their fleshy, pig-like snout. It also helps them breathe at the surface while keeping most of their body underwater.

🐢 Their shell is different
Instead of the hard, obvious scutes you see on many turtles, their shell is covered in leathery skin, giving it a much smoother appearance.

🌏 They have a very limited natural range
In the wild, they’re found in northern Australia and Papa New Guinea, living in rivers, lagoons, freshwater systems and even some brackish environments.

And then there’s our favourite Baby Trevor fact…

⭐ He knows he owns the place. 😂

He’s become such a massive part of our shop and we absolutely LOVE how many people walk through the door and immediately ask, “Where’s Baby Trevor?” 🥹💙

If you haven’t met him yet, make sure you come and say hello although there’s a good chance he’ll be asleep in the sand, looking for food or completely ignoring you. 😂🐢

❓ QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED ALL THE TIME! 🐠

Since we’ve had so many new customers recently and honestly, we seem to gain new customers every single day ❤️
We thought we’d answer some of the questions we get asked over and over again!

Hopefully this helps answer a few before your next visit 👇

🐟 Do you take fish in / rehome fish?
Unfortunately, no. All of our livestock comes directly from our trusted suppliers and we don’t take fish from customers, helping us prevent cross-contamination between systems.

🪨 Do you sell live rock?
Yes! We stock live rock in store.

💧 Do you sell RO water and saltwater?
Yes! We sell both RO water and ready mixed saltwater.

📋 Do you have a stock list?
Unfortunately, no. We have thousands of fish in store and our stock changes constantly, with new deliveries arriving every week. We simply couldn’t keep an accurate list updated!

📦 Can you order a specific fish in for me?
In most cases, yes! If there’s something particular you’re looking for, come in and have a chat with us and we’ll see what we can do.

🧪 Do you test aquarium water?
Yes! Bring a sample of your aquarium water in and we can test it and help you understand the results.

🐢Do you sell turtles?
No, we don’t. We currently have one fully aquatic turtle, but he’s more like a fish than a traditional reptile! For reptiles and terrapins, we would need a different licence and, to be honest, it’s not a direction we plan to go in.

👀 Can I just come in for a look around?
OF COURSE! 😂 You don’t have to buy anything. Come in, have a wander, look at the fish, get some ideas and say hello to the crew!

💬 Got another question?
Pop it in the comments below! If we get enough, we’ll do a Part 2 answering some more of the questions you guys ask us all the time. 🐠💙

If you’ve visited us, supported us, recommended us or simply enjoyed following our journey so far, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could take a minute to vote for The Aquatic Retailer. 🥹

We’re still a relatively new shop, so even being considered means a huge amount to us.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already voted. 💙

Aquatics stores and local fish shops around the UK are often the unsung heroes of the industry. Whether you’re voting for a new store or old, a large chain or a small independent, a mainstream shop or a specialist one, tell us who rocks your boat!
