A book that celebrates the joy of reading is always a big hit with me. Being a cat lover myself, this book has made me wonder whether there is a story where a cat helps someone to discover the joy of reading?

Dorothy Leigh Sayers (13 June 1893 –17 December 1957) was a renowned English crime writer, poet, playwright, essayist, translator, and Christian humanist. She was also a student of classical and modern languages.

She is best known for her mysteries, a series of novels and short stories set between the First and Second World Wars that feature English aristocrat and amateur sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey, which remain popular to this day.

I love reading her books, in particular Strong Poison. Written and published in 1930 it introduced Harriet Vane; a woman who shunned the traditional role of a woman and lived as she wanted to. The way she lived became the focus of a murder trial and was sensationalised in the media. Her antagonism towards Lord Peter Wimsey (Sayers Amateur Detective) who is trying to secure her release from prison and a possible death sentence, is written with great insight and wit.

This quote, from a later novel by Sayers, is a great pick me up! 😊
