Meet Anne.

As one of the founding members of Manthorpe Furniture, Anne has been part of the business from the very beginning. With decades of experience in upholstery, there isn’t much she doesn’t know about the trade.

These days, you’ll find her overseeing our cut section, where every project begins its journey through the workshop.

A huge part of Manthorpe Furniture then, and still a huge part of it now.

Behind the scenes lately 📸A bit of this, a bit of that and plenty happening in the workshop.

Sorry, summer, but we’re ready.

Cosy season is nearly upon us, so naturally we’ve been spending a little time flicking through the latest fabrics and planning all things warm and cosy.

How beautiful are these textured fabrics?

A subtle change can make a big difference.

For this hotel lobby project, we reupholstered the outside backs of these chairs in a contrasting fabric, adding a little more personality while keeping the overall look cohesive.

A simple way to bring some character into a space without changing everything.

A little heat, a lot of patience.

Getting the wrinkles out of leather requires gentle heat, steady hands, and knowing exactly when to stop. Just one of those small steps that makes a big difference to the finish.

It's easy to look at a finished chair and forget what's underneath.

This one arrived needing new webbing, re-tied springs and a complete rebuild of the deep buttoning to get the shape sitting properly again.

We kept as much of the original structure as possible, preserving the character of the piece while adding a little extra comfort where it made sense.

Brandon joined us as an apprentice and has worked his way up to fully qualified upholsterer.

Quiet, hard-working and one of the best pairs of hands in the workshop.

Good craftsmanship takes time to learn. Brandon’s put the years in, and you can see it in the work he produces.

This one had been sitting in a garage for years - cracked leather, a wobbly frame, the kind of chair people usually give up on.

We stripped it back, repaired the joints, and re-upholstered the leather by hand. Same chair, same character, just ready for another few decades of use.

Some pieces just need someone to notice they're worth saving.

Beautifully restored. Ready for many more years of use.
