Sad to say that reports from the 2 day traders do not bode well for the future.
Since being moved back to the North of the "Shed" what little trade there was appears to have declined even further.

Was there really any need for the move ? Or was it just spite ?

Strange that the supposed "Events" are somewhat lacking, unless you count a Fairground ride as an "Event"

Only Event on the GYBC events published Events Calendar that MAY touch the market area appears to be the Out There Festival May 28-30th. Although the actual listing Just says Streets Parks and Waterfronts.

It's a disgrace

We have today been informed of the passing of one of the markets longest serving characters, Robin Philpot. RIP Robin.

Catch up with one of the Traders yesterday.
All appears to not be well in the Cow Shed.

Despite the inordinate (ridiculous in fact) cost of building the Cow Shed and despite of, or maybe because of, the still missing £2million the place is seemingly falling apart.

The fact that the previously mentioned Mould infested Cedar is getting worse is one thing, but now stalls are being flooded because the roof leaks.

The recently re slabbed Top End appears to have drainage issues, and the traders on the 2 day still apparently do not have satisfactory access to electricity.

Rumour continues that rent arrears are growing and some of the businesses are on the verge of giving up.

What a complete debacle. A once thriving world reknown market, brought to this by the clueless clowns, some of whom now fancy leading the New Mega Council.

God (or Rupert Lowe) help us.!

From a Message I recieved this morning ( unless its a late April fools Joke and we know how late the council run) the woes of Gt Yarmouth Traders are about to increase. It appears the council feels it needs to charge VAT on market rents. Quick bit of research shows that it may well be the case for the indoor market, but not for the 2/3 day traders who erect their own stalls. The relevant information that appears to show they are wrong as in section 3 and paragraph 2.6 of VAT Notice 742 The issue of a licence to occupy land is exempt. Example 8 of 9 as quoted in section 2.6

The destruction of our once Great Market continues.

I wonder if they intend to charge the Easter Fair on the same, I believe incorrect basis. Now that would be interesting, I am sure the Showmans Guild would have a few thoughts on that.

Find out when transactions involving land and buildings are exempt from VAT.

Seems like GYBC have suddenly realised that the booming Town Centre is not so booming after all. Traders are being given a Free rent period this month. It would probably be more appropriate that it lasted until the never ending mess they are making of the Town Cente ended. On a positive note, it appears that Rupert Lowe's efforts to increase Police in the area has born some fruit, with reports of increased Police precence being noted
