I’ve been thinking quite a lot about who the Artist Edition is actually for.

A guitarist, obviously.

But perhaps not only a guitarist.

Somebody might be drawn to one because of the instrument.

Someone else because of the artist.

Another person might simply see it as an object they want to live with.

And I rather like that.

There’s no rule saying a guitar has to spend its life in a case, on a stage or hanging in a music shop.

Some instruments become part of somebody’s home, studio or collection.

And every now and then, hopefully, they get taken down, plugged in and played.

That seems like a pretty good life for a guitar.

This is Eden: A Figment Of Your Meditation.

Built on a Munson Tempest and created in collaboration with artist Emma Howell.

One of the things I particularly like about Emma’s work is that she doesn’t begin with a completely predetermined image.

One painted shape informs the next.

The work develops as she responds to what is already there.

That feels particularly appropriate on a guitar, because the object itself becomes part of that conversation.

The ash grain, contours and proportions are still visible beneath the work. The guitar hasn’t disappeared.

Instead, Emma’s painting and the instrument have become part of the same piece.

And underneath it all, there is still a very serious guitar.

Eden is part of the Munson Artist Edition.

Made in Britain, one at a time.

HANGAR® isn’t something we buy in and put our name on.

We make each one in our own workshop from solid hardwood, shape and finish it by hand, fit the hardware, and check it before it leaves us.

It is a simple product, but that doesn’t mean it should be made carelessly.

The same things that matter to us when we build guitars still matter here: good materials, clean construction, proper finishing and attention to the details you notice when you live with something every day.

That is why every HANGAR has its own grain, character and small variations.

Made in Britain. Built to be used.

Make it personal.

A guitar stand is practical, but it doesn’t have to feel generic.

HANGAR® can be personalised with engraving on the base — a name, short message, logo or simple artwork.

We’ll send you a proof before anything is engraved, so you can see exactly how it will look and approve it first.

It’s a nice option for a special guitar, a studio, a gift, or simply to make the stand feel a little more your own.

Engraving is available for £15.

HANGAR® can be personalised with engraving on the base — a name, short message, logo or simple artwork.

One thing I don’t want the Artist Edition to become is a range of guitars with different artwork applied to them.

For me, that would miss the point.

Each collaboration should start again.

Different artist.

Different ideas.

Different materials.

Possibly a different guitar altogether.

The instrument should develop around the work rather than the artwork being made to fit a predetermined product.

It means the results are harder to predict.

But I think that’s exactly how it should be.

If we already know what the next one will look like, we probably aren’t pushing the idea far enough.

Which HANGAR® do you need?

We make three versions because not every instrument is the same size.

HANGAR® is designed for standard guitars.

HANGAR® XL gives extra hanging height for short-scale basses and baritone guitars.

HANGAR® XXL is for longer-scale bass guitars.

The idea is simple: the instrument should hang naturally, with the right clearance and without the stand feeling oversized or awkward.

All three are made in the same way, solid hardwood, hand finished in our workshop, and fitted with the same String Swing yoke.

So the main question is really just:

What are you putting on it?

There’s something slightly contradictory about making an Artist Edition guitar.

You can hang it on a wall.

You can display it as an artwork.

But you can also plug it into an amplifier and play it.

I like that tension.

Because however far we take the artistic side of these instruments, I never want them to stop being guitars.

The neck still has to feel right.

The pickups have to work with the instrument.

It has to balance properly, stay in tune and make you want to pick it up.

Perhaps that’s what makes them interesting objects.

They don’t quite belong entirely to the world of art, and they don’t quite belong entirely to the traditional world of guitars either.

They occupy their own little space somewhere between the two.

Why make a guitar stand from hardwood?

Because the material matters.

HANGAR® is made from solid hardwood rather than folded metal or moulded plastic. We currently build them in ash, cherry and oak, with reclaimed timbers used when suitable pieces become available.

Part of that is practical. Hardwood gives the stand weight, stability and durability.

But there is another reason.

Guitars are made from beautiful materials, and I wanted the stand underneath them to feel considered too.

Every HANGAR is made in our workshop, finished by hand with a satin oil finish, and each piece of timber has its own grain and character.

No two are ever quite identical.
