The inaugural Manchester Jewellery Week ‘I Wanna be Adorned’ (10th – 16th Septmber 20206) will be a fabulous city-wide celebration of contemporary handmade jewellery, art jewellery and adornment.

As part of MJW, Manchester Jewellers Network is curating a exhibition in Manchester Art Gallery Shop.

"24 Carat Party People" at Manchester Art Gallery brings together a diverse collective of eleven contemporary jewellers from Manchester Jewellers Network to translate the city’s radical musical heritage into wearable art. Independent makers bridge the gap between subcultural soundwaves and tangible adornment, juxtaposing the gritty, moody, industrial minimalism of late-70s post-punk (Joy Division, New Order) with the baggy, euphoric, kaleidoscopic swagger of the Madchester era (The Stone Roses, Chemical Brothers). Through sharp geometric metalwork and unexpected textures, the artists immortalise these sonic rhythms, capturing the iconic energy of the legendary Manchester music scene using everything from precious metals, vitreous enamels, and gemstones to glass, 3D printing, and vinyl.

Manchester City Council has committed to becoming a zero-carbon city
by 2038, twelve years ahead of the UK government’s 2050 target.

We are committed to limiting global warming to 1.5 °C to delay the devastating effects of climate change.
Our mission is clear and ongoing. We recognise that we are at the beginning of our journey and have a long way to go, but we remain optimistic about the future and the impact we can make together.

This exhibition documents how MCAD’s makers are working individually
and collectively towards a more sustainable future.
We have asked MCAD’s Makers to reflect on their creative practices and
the steps they hope to take towards a brighter, greener future by
finishing this sentence:
“By 2038, I would like to...”

This exhibition documents how MCAD’s makers are working individually and collectively towards a more sustainable future.

Amy Wilkinson – Studio 1
I am a jewellery designer based in Studio 1. This "Floral Fragments" jewellery collection
showcases silver flowers that have blossomed from old, repurposed, and excess metal
from my practice. I use cut-off fragments of silver or gold to form petal shapes, which are
then soldered together with sprinkled metal shavings. The pieces are then reticulated with
heat to create a molten metal texture, making each one unique.
