My youngest baby was not even 1 years old when I wrote 'slow down mummy' and now she is 11 at secondary school. My eldest baby who was 9 is now 19 and has moved out to university. My middle baby is 16. I also now have a step son who 7 and today I reflect on time I have with them all and how quickly the years have flown by. It's hard to see your nest getting smaller as your babies fly off and live their own lives and it's tinged sadness but also with so much pride and love. I miss the days we all snuggled in bed together or had our family rituals at bedtime, however now I have beautiful young women and a little man who I am so proud of. We speak of everything together and laugh at the woes and trials of life. Family is a beautiful gift and a perfect example of the art and surrender of holding on and learning to let go. ❤️

Life is in constant transit, ever changing, always moving. One moment in a flash becomes a memory so make sure you savour it, breathe it in, really feel it and acknowledge the gift it is. Motherhood reminds me of this. One moment we are caring for babies, the next minute they are packing their bags and leaving the nest. Yet being a mother has been the best gift. As another chapter turns I'm reminded to live fully in each moment, tasting each experience as it unfolds. Breathe in the beauty of living in the here and now. ❤️ photo by Elizabeth Boyle

A little mouse named Terry sat at the window sill.
Watching the busy world go by.
Every day hé came and sat and viewed the hustle and the bustle, the crowds, the smoke, the busyness beneath.

Tall buildings full of workers sitting behind screens, suited and booted.
Swigging large mugs of coffee as they busied themselves until night fell.
Terry sat still on his windowsill and watched this world in wonder.
Honking of taxi horns,
clomping feet on paving slabs,
smoke rising from the streets below.
Crowds beneath like ants; dodging and diving in mass,
hurrying from place to place.
This was the view that greeted Terry each and every day.
But one day Terry came and perched upon his window sill. The view below quite different.

Not one car upon the street,
not one person that he could greet.
The pavements were bare,
No smoke filled the air,
The hustle and the bustle had stilled to a stop.

Terry looked down below in amazement,
Wondering ‘Where had everybody disappeared?’
The noise and the chaos had cleared,
Leaving only silence and stillness
upon the pavements.

The sky appeared more blue,
No planes flew in the sky,
The air seemed so clear,
Only birds now in flight.

Terry’s eyes began to wide
As he watched the world turn her tides.
Empty sky scrapers,
Silent streets,
Not one person he would meet.

Days turned into weeks,
Daily Terry came to lay upon his window sill.
More accustomed now to the view,
The sun proudly shining still,
Flowers blooming against all will,
Pigeons cooing down below,
The previous fast pace,
now so slow.

Terry lay back against the frame,
Breathing softly once again,
A gentle hum from a little bee,
Landing gently upon his knee.. Terry sighed and then he spoke,
The world stood still for me to see,
The things I normally couldn’t see.
The silence and the beauty of
being still and living quietly. ~ Rebekah knight .
