I had a fab day yesterday, accompanying author-illustrator and graphic novel creator Steve Webb on some school visits!

Steve's brilliant series, Peng and Spanners, follows the adventures of Peng, a rule-breaking penguin, and Spanners, a clever inventor cat. In this latest book, they meet Doctor Biscuits, a fellow inventor with a dastardly plan to steal the top invention from the convention!

Steve showed students how to draw lots of characters, step-by-step, and gave some insight into his creative process - and even exclusively revealed the title of the new Peng & Spanners book he's currently working on!! (My lips are sealed...🤐) He also got the children up to the front for sing-alongs, giving away copies of his book as prizes!!

It was a pleasure to see the students lap up the experience - and we had some beautiful comments at the end about how some of the school's SEND children had particularly loved the session ♥️ The power of books 📚

Thanks so much to the two schools who welcomed us, and a big thanks to Faber for helping organise, and to Steve for not only creating wonderful books, but for so generously sharing them with lots of delighted children!

You know when people say talking to yourself is the first sign of madness? And then they say, “As long as you don’t answer yourself.”

Well, that ship has sailed. And we’re both on it.

'The Bookshop I'd Like to Thank' initiative from HarperCollinsUK asked 21 authors to nominate a bookshop to recieve £1000. This is to be spent however the bookshop sees fit to encourage more people to pick up a book during the National Year of Reading.

We are so happy to say Tom Palmer nominated The Book Stop! To say we were gobsmacked is an understatement. But we are so very grateful!! Thank you so much, Tom. Not only for the money, which will be going towards something very exciting! But for the kind words, and the appreciation of what we do. Or try to do!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
