A first edition, first printing of Intruder In The Dust by William Faulkner and published by Chatto & Windus, 1949.
Bound in publisher’s original blue cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, sunned through the jacket, top edge blue a little faded, endpapers with faint partial browning to inner margin, ownership inscription of Australian collector Rae Rothfield (dated 1950) to flyleaf.
An excellent example of the Sydney Greenwood dust jacket, backstrip panel a little browned, very good.
A bright copy of one of the key Faulkner titles, this edition published in the year he won the Nobel Prize.

Oil! by Upton Sinclair is a social and political novel about the rise of the American oil industry. It follows Bunny Ross, the idealistic son of a wealthy oil tycoon, as he witnesses corruption, labour exploitation, and class inequality. Through Bunny’s moral awakening, Sinclair critiques capitalism, corporate power, and political influence, revealing how greed and profit shape society and damage democratic ideals. The novel loosely inspired the 2007 film There Will Be Blood, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Daniel Day-Lewis.
The film draws mainly from the novel’s early sections about the oil boom and ruthless entrepreneurship, while significantly diverging in plot, themes, and characters.
