One advantage of gardening daily in preparation for Open Gardens next weekend is spotting changes in real time. This beautiful iris stood out proudly among the foxgloves as a luscious thick dark bud and yesterday it started to open. Will she be at her best next weekend? Do come if you can - Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd June 12-5pm

Last week my boy married his girl and making this bouquet for her was quite the most nerve racking thing I’ve done in a long while! With the exception of the roses from and veronicas from everything else in the bouquet was grown here in Harrogate. I especially liked using the myrtle which started flowering a day before the wedding, on exactly the same day she flowered for my daughters wedding 4 years earlier. Love a good omen and it was the happiest of days!

One of the best things about gardening is welcoming old friends back each year. It isn’t just the beauty of the flowers that are a joy to see again, but the memories they invoke. This Wedding Day rose was a present from my work colleagues when David and I got married. That was 18 years ago and just look at her now!

A winning tulip planting combination designed to complement our dry stone wall. City of Vancouver, Charming Lady, Request and Pink Diamond. Amazing to think we still have tulips flowering on May 23rd but these beauties have been well worth the wait. Thank you for your wonderful bulbs.

Our bluebell wood. We feel so blessed to have our very own patch of bluebells. Their beauty is delicate and fleeting but we work hard to manage the area for them throughout the year, to enable their naturalising spread and protect them for generations to come. The rewards are well worth the effort!

Many, many congratulations to two special couples who were married yesterday, Sarah and John, and Beth and Ben. I loved creating their wedding flowers for them and thanks to invaluable help from all went without a hitch (no pun intended!)
All of these flowers and the foliage were grown in Yorkshire by , and by me.
