A silly target I beat this year, grow carrots 🥕

Now they won't ever be on the show bench, or the biggest you've ever seen, heck, they weren't even the tastiest! But I GREW them ☺️

In previous years they got attacked by carrot fly and died, or simply never germinated. This year they were planted in small planters/troughs of sandy soil on top of the IBCs out the way of the cat and carrot fly. If it wasn't for the lack of rain this year, I think they could have been good!

Always next year! So, any recommendations for carrots to grow?

Another weekend gone! Five weekends left until Christmas and fifteen until flowers return 😣🗓

The cat doing her best to get in the way while planting out Dutch Iris in multiple colours. Grey trays used as dividers while planting out. A gap is left in this permanent bulb bed, What extras should I put in? 🤔

Last photo is another raised bed finished in the dark. Its filled with compost but got irrigation to set up again. Behind is the stacks of crates ready for planting tulips now the temperatures have dropped to low enough to avoid tulip fire.

Wet weather job before the heavy rain comes in - planting 500 Narcissi 🌼
Gone for a selection of highly scented varieties in larger numbers to ensure a steady supply over March and April. Whites and pale yellows to go with last year's brightly coloured flowers which are always welcome after a dreary winter ☔️

Another raised bed made! This one is for the Narcissus 🌼

A day of swearing as I'm very good at rounding off screws and breaking drill bits 🤦‍♀️ Will plant the bulbs, cover with compost and fix the irrigation with angled pieces another day. Two more beds to go 😬 best buy a multipack of drillbits 😅

With today's unexpected rain, looks like I'm going to hide in the tunnel till its stopped 😒🌧

Sweet peas going in for scented blooms. Took a year out of growing sweet peas last year to see if I missed them, and I did! Hopefully this year won't heat up so quick and they flower for a long period in spring.
Inbetween the two book-ends of peas will be Ranuculus and Anenomes, so the tunnel will be a mass of flowers in spring.
... just got to sort out the irrigation and paths too 😩

Today's wet weather job - Make a large central bed in the tunnel ready to overwinter sweet peas and ranunculus.

But like all jobs, 100 tasks have to be done before its completed!
Need to:
🔴make the bed with timber and stake it in,
🟠reduce the soil level in other beds,
🟡soak the soil so it's not hydrophobic,
🟢order compost for it,
🔵shovel and wheelbarrow that compost to top up beds,
🟣sort out irrigation (massive job in itself),
⚫️then we can plant it out,
🔴add the sprayers to the lines installed above,
🟠mulch the path with woodchip,
🟡wash the tunnel to allow as much light as possible,
🟢cut back the bramble and hedge so it doesn't touch,
🔵strim down the grass outside to allow for better ventilation,
🟣add slabs to make a path outside so it's not a slippy mud track
⚫️add mini removable benches in to give extra covered space for seedlings.
