Consuelo, Duchess of Marlborough.
*
From COUNTRY HOUSE CAMERA, by Christopher Simon Sykes, 1980. A collection of amateur photographs taken at country houses between the 1850s and the 1930s. Simon Sykes sought out albums and tranches of photos in the homes of the British and Irish aristocracy and presents them here as a record of how the upper classes lived in a vanished era.

King of Fashion. The Autobiography of Paul Poiret. 1931.
*
The first English-lanuage edition of Paul Poiret's autobiography, with a striking black and gold binding. The designer recounts how he changed the course of Parisian fashion, liberating women from their corsets. We learn about his influences and his designs, his fashion house, and his interior and perfume businesses. Poiret wrote his biography after his couture house had collapsed in 1929 and when he was struggling to make ends meet, although this side of his life is largely omitted from the book.

Hoyningen-Huene and Horst had a complex and involved relationship. Horst was Huene's model and photographic assistant. Huene was Horst's photographic mentor. The pair were also lovers. This photograph of Horst's torso was taken when he was 24 and working in Huene's studio. It was taken on the 'Vogue' roof. An athletic Horst takes up a heroic, Olympic pose.
