Out foraging for elderberries today ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿซ Elderberries naturally contain vitamin C and antioxidants, and I love making the most of what nature provides. Iโ€™ll be using some to make a homemade elderberry syrup, traditionally used as a seasonal family recipe, and some for an adult-only (of course)elderberry gin infusion.
โš ๏ธ Foraging & safety: Never eat elderberries raw or undercooked. They need appropriate preparation before consumption. Only forage when you are completely certain of the plantโ€™s identification, and always leave plenty behind for wildlife. This post is for sharing my foraging and homemade traditions and isnโ€™t intended as medical advice. ๐ŸŒฟ

Part 2 of my elderflower wine journey!
Five weeks later, itโ€™s time to rack (strain) the elderflower wine. Fermentation has finished, and you can see all the sediment thatโ€™s settled at the bottom of the demijohn. By carefully siphoning the wine into a clean demijohn and leaving the sediment behind.

Now the waiting begins again! Over the next few weeks, Iโ€™ll be looking for the wine to become beautifully clear while any remaining sediment settles. Once itโ€™s clear, itโ€™ll be time for bottling. Then the fun part begins ๐Ÿ˜‹ ๐Ÿฅ‚
