There's something rather fitting about launching a Bayeux Tapestry inspired kit from right here in Hastings. The tapestry (or rather ‘embroidery’) famously tells the story of the Battle of Hastings, and nearly a thousand years on, we're bringing a piece of that history back home, stitch by stitch
To celebrate the Bayeux Tapestry’s arrival in the UK, with the exhibition opening today at the British Museum, we’ve launching “Message in Sky”, an exclusive embroidery kit design by professional hand embroiderer Amy Burt of Lady B Embroidery Amy Burt - Lady B Embroidery stitched especially for Bus Stop Studios Bus Stop Studios
The design takes its inspiration from one of the most striking scenes in the Bayeux Tapestry, the appearance of Halley’s Comet blazing across the sky, watched by onlookers who took it as an omen. It’s a beautiful reminder of how the tapestry’s makers captured not just events but wonder, and how stitched cloth can carry a message across nearly a thousand years.
Working on this kit, you’ll learn the famous Bayeux stitch alongside traditional stitches including stem, chain, split, back & satin stitch, plus French knots. Whether you’re picking up a needle for the first time or adding to your stitching repertoire, you’ll come away with skills as old as the tapestry itself.
