Previously run as a not-for-profit company, Modernity Mark now continues as an event offering, creating a traditional festival stall filled with eclectic treasures, workshops, and the Gratis Games. It provides a safe, welcoming space
for everybody to enjoy, take part, and share. Mark continues to run Modernity Mark despite the many varied issues caused by Parkinson’s. The funds raised are used to maintain the games, cover insurance and external costs, and help keep the stall going. Modernity Mark TGW has been run on a not-for-profit basis for the enjoyment of participation in what we do, while also supporting and encouraging events to provide better facilities and access for disability in any form. It relies both on volunteer helpers, known as the stall family, to help create and care for the space, and on event organisers to improve access and enjoyment for everyone attending festivals. All money received is used for the upkeep of the games and stall, as well as external costs connected with access projects. General Description of the Stall
The stall offers a fascinating and eclectic mix of giftware and practical items. Stock is carefully collected to create a distinctive, unusual look, following the style and atmosphere of a traditional festival stall. Where possible, the stall frame is decorated with covers and hangings to add to this effect. Core stock at events includes incense, accessories, and kits for burning and enjoying incense, giving the space its own distinctive aroma. The rest of the stock consists of a changing selection of alternative-style giftware, children’s toys, novelties, jewellery, gemstones, rummage baskets, a sand animal menagerie, soft toys, and other items that are either purchased or donated to support the project. Prices are kept sensible in order to cover costs and expenses. Negotiable rates for stall fees and space for the games are always appreciated, in recognition of what Modernity Mark TGW is working to achieve. Extra admission passes for volunteers are also gratefully received. General Description of Workshops and Games
The games operate on a workshop and youth-club principle. They rely on volunteers to supervise the area, and on those enjoying and playing the games to leave them as they found them. Over the years, the games have developed from the simple starting point of a pool table and giant chess into something more varied and involved. The main stall now includes a games room, consisting of a 20ft square Coleman Dome, which houses the pool table and smaller board games such as chess, draughts, snakes and ladders, Connect 4, and similar activities.
