Saturday 1.30pm.
went outside to have a quick lunch break between classes today, sat on my bench (the one that disappeared and reappeared magically a while ago 😂). There was a woman sitting on the bench. I said hi when I sat down, she turned a little and returned to looking downward. She looked upset so I asked if she was ok. She wasn't. She was wearing a uniform t- shirt for a café a couple of doors further along... That one on the corner, with the pedestrian crossing in front of it.
She started crying and said the owner is a bully and had been so nasty and insulting •in front of customers too• that she'd just taken herself off for a break.
She only works weekends there and I asked if she really needs the job enough to put up with that sort of treatment. She said she's only working there to help her friend out who also works there.
I told her I thought they should both start looking for new jobs fast as possible.
I've had a run in with the owner myself. Two years ago. I was a customer at the time. I've heard negative news about her from others too.
The poor woman thanked me and said it helped that I spoke to her, and shared my experience too.
She went back to work.
I've been my own boss for a long time now and sometimes ( oftentimes) it's REALLY REALLY tough. I don't pay myself a wage. I work 6 days a week but I'm thinking about work every single day.
Sometimes I think about working for someone else, getting holiday and holiday pay!!!! A regular wage!!!!!
Sounds good.
But I like my freedom to choose.
There's no way I could work for someone who treats their staff as tho they're completely worthless, with no respect and no kindness. And as though they don't have a brain.
It's like being in a relationship with the wrong person. It feels like a trap. Because it is a trap. It stifles you, slowly.
Why would anyone stay in that situation?
Well, life is complicated
Why do some people in a position of authority have to behave like utter arse wipes?
