There’s something ridiculously satisfying about knitting your very own pair of socks… and we’re going to show you how. 🧶❤️

Our Easy Peezy – How to Knit Socks workshop is a friendly 3-week course, taking you step-by-step from casting on to pulling on your very own pair of handmade socks.

And you don’t need to be an expert.

👉 If you can knit and purl, this is for you!

We’ll tackle it together — one stitch, one heel and one toe at a time. No sock-knitting experience needed.

🧶 Well… I’ve decided to try my hand at this knitting lark. 😂

I spend enough time surrounded by yarn, patterns and people who actually know what they’re doing, so I thought it was probably time I had a proper go myself.

The plan is simple…

I’m going to work my way through this book of scarves and see what happens.

What could possibly go wrong? 😬

So far, we have… knitting! Actual knitting!

I even got a bit confident and thought I’d throw in a row of purl stitches.

They didn’t quite go according to plan. 😂

Apparently, owning a wool shop does not automatically give you knitting superpowers. Who knew?

I’m leaving the mistakes in though. This is very much going to be a learn as I go, make mistakes, probably pull things back and occasionally wonder what on earth I’ve done sort of project.

So… have a good look at the photo.

🔎 Can you spot where my purl stitches went slightly rogue?

And more importantly… should I carry on regardless, or am I going to regret that decision about 4ft further into the scarf? 😂

🧶 A little love for the men’s knits…

Sometimes the simplest designs are the ones you end up wearing again and again.

We’ve been looking through our men’s patterns and spotted these two Stylecraft DK jumpers — classic shapes, lovely texture and, most importantly, very wearable.

And then came the fun bit… choosing the colours! 👀

We pulled a few shades from the shelves and suddenly you can start imagining them knitted up. Rich Stewart Red for the V-neck? Gorgeous. 💗 Or perhaps Firth for those cables? 💙

The nice thing about a good pattern is that changing the colour can completely change its personality.

So, we’re curious…

Sometimes the hardest part of knitting a jumper isn’t the knitting at all… it’s choosing the colour! 😂

🧦 SOCK KNITTERS… LOOK WHAT’S LANDED! 🧶

There’s something rather satisfying about a fresh ball of sock yarn… especially when it’s Rowan. 😍

We’ve got Rowan Sock in, along with the gorgeous Rowan Sock Collection for a little inspiration.

The yarn is a practical 75% wool / 25% polyamide blend, with superwash wool — soft enough to enjoy knitting with, but with that added durability you really want from a pair of socks.

And those colours… 👀
That rich burnt orange or the beautiful heathery purple?

We’re already imagining them knitted up. 🧦

🧶 Wool + water = instant shrinkage? Not quite!

Water isn’t the problem… it’s what you do while the wool is wet that matters. 👀

🔥 Heat + 🌀 rubbing + 🌡️ sudden temperature changes = the perfect recipe for felting.

So before you blame the water, remember… wool just likes to be treated gently. 😂

Wool, merino, cotton, alpaca, bamboo, linen… walk into a yarn shop and suddenly choosing the yarn feels harder than choosing the project! 😂
So we’ve made a little Year of Yarn guide to help.
