People ask what our grades actually mean, so here it is.

Every phone we sell gets a grade, and the grade sets the price.

Not a vague “used condition” that could mean anything.

You know exactly what you are paying for before you part with a penny.

At the top sit Brand New and Brand New Opened. Sealed, or as good as, barely touched.

Then our three core used grades, which is where most people are looking.

Pristine is a phone that looks and feels like new. You would struggle to tell it has had a previous life.

Excellent is just a step down. Genuinely lovely in the hand, maybe the faintest sign of use you would have to hunt for.

Good is a solid, honest phone with light visible wear. It works exactly as it should and it is often the smart buy if you care more about what a phone does than how it looks.

Anything below that we do not lump into a standing grade.

If a device has a specific imperfection, we list it on its own and tell you precisely what it is, so it is never hidden inside a vague label.

The point of all this is simple.

The grade is a promise about what is actually in your hand, not marketing language.

Two phones at two different prices are two different things, and our job is to make sure you always know which one you are buying.

Here is what happens before we pay out for a device 👇

First, a full diagnostics check on our M360. It tests everything.

Touch response, Face ID, battery cycles and drainage, and all the microphones, which on most phones means two or three separate mics that each need testing on their own.

People never think about that until one of them fails on a call. This stage also runs a blacklist and IMEI check, so we know the phone is clean and has not been reported lost or stolen before it ever goes near a shelf.

Then it gets cleaned and fully inspected by hand. We hold every device under proper lighting and go over it slowly, because that is the only way to catch the small stuff.

The faint scratch, the tiny mark, the hairline crack that a quick glance in normal light would miss completely.

Whatever we find sets the grade, and the grade sets the price.

Someone messaged me yesterday asking if £420 was a good price for an iPhone 14 Pro on Marketplace.

Honest answer? I had no idea. Neither did they.

Because here’s the thing about second-hand phones, the price tells you almost nothing about what you’re actually buying.

Two identical iPhones at £420 can be completely different products.

One has a healthy battery, original screen, clean history.

The other has a tired battery about to fail, a cheap aftermarket screen that’ll start ghost-touching in three months, and a history you can’t verify.

Same listing with similar photos, but wildly different futures.

The bit nobody talks about is what happens when it breaks.

Buy a £600 phone privately, screen dies a month in, you’ve lost £600.

The seller stops replying. Marketplace says it’s not their problem. Your bank says the same.

So before you go and see any second-hand phone, ask the three questions in image two.

Confident answers, you might have a real bargain.

Cagey on any of them, walk away - the saving isn’t a saving, you’re just paying for risk you can’t see.

The phone is the easy part. What you can’t see is what costs you.

-Urgency - “Act now or your account will be closed”
-A link that doesn’t match the official website
-Asking for personal details via text
-Poor spelling or strange wording
A number you don’t recognise
If in doubt, don’t click it. Go directly to the official website instead.

It’s probably your apps running in the background without you even knowing.

Here’s how to fix it in 2 minutes:

iPhone → Settings → General → Background App Refresh → switch off the ones you don’t need

Android → Settings → Battery → Battery Optimisation → restrict unnecessary apps
