Rapkyns Nursery A family run nursery growing over 1500 varieties of shrubs, climbers and perennials A real garden in pots and it’s free to enter, no booking required.

We don’t have a show garden like some local nurseries because the whole nursery is a show garden! Plus every plant is for sale so when you spot a little gem in one of our creative inspirations, just pick it up and put it in your trolley. Also if you feel a display could be improved, feel free to move the plants around. We really do love to have your input. Please do wander up and down our paths, a

dmiring the plant combinations and enjoy the vistas while being inspired by our special nursery complete with prairie garden, hot and cool borders, secret Victorian parlour garden and fernery but watch out for the dinosaurs! Then take a rest in one of our secluded seating areas while you think about your own garden. Don't forget Bonnets Barn (Grant's Garden) is open on Wednesday 8th July in aid of the MND Association.

This is an absolutely gorgeous garden with colour-themed plantings, dry garden, veg garden, lake, firepit garden and views over the beautiful Sussex country side to be enjoyed from the many seating areas.

I have been asked if its ok to come as a group and yes it absolutely is! I know there is a horticultural society, a U3A group and a WI all visiting. I do hope you will be coming along either on your own or with friends.

There will be delicious home made teas, stalls including the Rusty Iron Man and the Rapkyns Nursery Pop up Plant Stall. Whats not to like?

It’s Volunteers Week and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers at Rapkyns Nursery.

You are an amazing bunch of people who not only help to keep the nursery running but also support each other in such a caring and empathetic way. You are truly amazing, each and everyone of you.

There is no way I could run the nursery without your amazing help, whether it’s potting, weeding, watering, serving customers, moving plants around the nursery, trimming hedges, taking cuttings or cooking food at a bbq (and fetching the vegetarian option because I had forgotten we needed one!) I can’t thank you enough.

I have had to put our Verbascum Arctic Queen in to quarantine. They are being attacked by the Mullein Moth which will strip the plants in a matter of days before going to ground to pupate.

They are the most beautiful caterpillar and quite large too. If you would like to see them at Rapkyns Nursery , I will happily show you and no need for a magnifying glass.

They will eat all the leaves but because Verbascum regrow from their roots, they will bounce back and be fine - until the moth lays her eggs once again!

I have heard there is rain coming soon, so now is the perfect time to get planting!

We have plants for all shapes and sizes of gardens at Rapkyns Nursery and we are very happy to help you choose what would suit yours. We are also giving demonstrations on how to take cuttings today (Sat 30th May) so do come and see how we propagate and grow all our lovely plants.

Having just watched the last of the Chelsea Flower Show coverage on BBC iplayer, I feel very proud to own Rapkyns Nursery and to be a woman working in horticulture.

I love my job and can think of nothing I would rather do. To be outside experiencing the weather, no matter how challenging it can be, surrounded by gorgeous plants both ordinary and unusual, weird and wonderful. What's not to like?

There are times when it's tough and I question my sanity but it's still the best job ever.

I would encourage anyone thinking of entering the horticultural world, whether for employment or pleasure - do it!! You won't regret it.
