To Greg & Mark,

Thank you for the wool.
Thank you for the snacks.
Thank you for tolerating the occasional sheep-related nonsense.

And most importantly, thank you for creating a place where creativity, kindness, community and a little bit of colourful chaos can thrive.

From all of us at Craft & Canvas (and especially from one very woolly employee)…

Happy Father’s Day ❤️

Love,
Sid the Sheep 🐑🌈

P.S. Sid would like it officially noted that he is available for commissions, appearances and biscuits.

The first patches have been arriving, and honestly, they’re making us a little emotional. Every stitch, every colour choice, every crocheted heart tells a story. And this is only the beginning…

But if you’ve been meaning to make a patch and haven’t quite got around to it yet, consider this your friendly nudge. 👀

The deadline is approaching fast – June 30th!

Whether you knit, crochet, sew, quilt, embroider, felt, weave, or simply enjoy creating something with your hands, we’d love your contribution.

The dream?
To create a giant community quilt made from hundreds of individual pieces, stitched together by the people who make this valley such a vibrant, welcoming and creative place.

Sid the Sheep has been counting patches…unfortunately, Sid can only count to four and keeps getting distracted by biscuits, so we’re relying on you lot to help us make this thing HUGE.

Just remember:
Make your piece in multiples of 15cm
(15x15, 15x30, 30x30, etc.)

Drop off or post to:
Craft & Canvas
3 Carlton Street
Hebden Bridge
HX7 8ER

Deadline: 30th June

Tell your knitting group, your crochet friends, your quilting auntie, your crafty neighbour and that person who has a stash of fabric they’re definitely going to use one day.

Together, let’s create something colourful, joyful, and impossible to ignore.

One Patch. Your Pride. Our Community. 🌈❤️🧶

Watercolour lovers, this one’s for you…

We’ve just expanded our range with a stunning new display of Sennelier L’Aquarelle Watercolours - the legendary French watercolours loved by artists around the world.

Made using honey for exceptional luminosity, smoothness and brilliance, these colours have a reputation for producing rich washes, vibrant pigments and beautifully glowing paintings.

From deep ocean blues and moody greys to vivid florals and delicate earth tones, the temptation level is dangerously high. 🥰

Whether you’re painting Yorkshire landscapes, sketching in a café, filling a travel journal or finally starting that watercolour project you’ve been thinking about for six months…

We’ve got a colour with your name on it.

Sid the Sheep’s opinion:

“I don’t know what Phthalocyanine Blue is, but it sounds expensive and important.”

He’s not wrong.

Pop in and have a browse. We promise you’ll leave inspired… whether you leave with just one colour is another matter entirely. 🤣

Ireland has gardens, and yarn shops! Currently sitting in the sun with the beginnings of something! The motorbike can wait!

NEW WINDOW TAKEOVER! 🎉

While Greg is off gallivanting around Ireland (allegedly researching yarn and art, but we suspect he’s mostly drinking tea and admiring scenery), we’ve handed the front window over to local artist Rowan Dykewood.

Honestly? We think Hebden looks rather good through Rowan’s eyes. 😍

From snowy canal scenes and twisting winter trees to local characters and familiar landscapes, these paintings capture the beauty, mood and character of our corner of the valley.

A few have already stopped people in their tracks outside the shop, and we’ve caught more than one passer-by peering through the window for a closer look.

Sid the Sheep’s review:
“I particularly like the paintings with trees. They look climbable.”
(Please note: Sid should not be allowed near trees.)

If you’re passing by, take a moment to have a look in the window and tell us which one is your favourite.

…and if anyone spots Greg trying to smuggle half of Ireland home in his bag, please let us know. 🤪

Day two in Northern Ireland and we made it to the Giant’s Causeway. Photos really don’t prepare you for it — thousands of basalt columns stacked like nature got slightly carried away with a geometry set. Wind howling, sea crashing, the whole dramatic works.

Running a shop doesn’t leave much room for downtime, so when we do get away we make it count. And yes — the colours in that rock are already giving us ideas for the yarn wall back home.

Normal service (and a lot more craft chat) resumes soon. For now, we’re just enjoying the view.

08/06/2026

We’re off to Ireland for a week on the motorbike. The shop is open as usual Tuesday to Saturday and online orders are shipping as normal. Running an independent shop is the best job in the world. Back soon.

04/06/2026

In just four weeks time it will be our big town wide Hebden Bridge Open Studios where there will be a hundred and six artists and makers opening their studios or exhibiting collectively in shared venues all over town.

We have a free brochure with all of the artists listed which is good to peruse before the event so you can plan your route and you can have your one sent out to you for the price of the postage.

You can order one on website from the 'events' page and I'm the 'posting brochures out monitor' so I will send it to you 💛. I'll put a direct link in my stories in a min.

I've been sending them to many places across the UK so far. It's nice that people will travel to visit us ☺️

🎨✨ NEW IN THE SHOP ✨🎨

For those who like their colours rich, velvety, and just a little bit irresistible…

We’ve just stocked these gorgeous Sennelier Extra-Fine Gouache colours in generous 100ml pots.

Favoured by illustrators, designers, fine artists, and anyone who appreciates beautifully pigmented paint, gouache sits somewhere between watercolour and acrylic, giving you vibrant colour, a matte finish, and incredible coverage.

Greg insists they’re “too nice to use.”

Mark’s opinion is that paint exists specifically to be used.

Sid The Sheep has remained neutral but has been spotted standing suspiciously close to the pink one. 🐑

Pop in and have a look while they’re still on the shelves.
