I absolutely refuse to get back on the bike until the sun comes out.

Haha... only joking!! 😅

I will of course be back out on the road come rain or shine, hell or high water, in the valley and on the tops, six days a week Monday-Saturday.

It's here!! The bike is ready... 🙌🚴🙌

Thanks to the lovely for bringing it back to life... and shout out to the equally lovely for letting me use it while I embark upon Project Cargodale 2.0!!

I am delighted that are one of several local businesses to have signed up to the new delivery service, along with , , , , , and .

This is a great start but I am eager to add more! If you are a local business anywhere in the Calder Valley interested in an eco-friendly delivery service, then please do get in touch! Feel free to drop me a message and I can answer any questions you might have.

I will also be offering personal delivery services for things like supermarket runs, launderette collections, big heavy bags of compost from the garden centre... in fact, anything big/awkward/heavy... I'm your man! Again, please feel free to leave a comment or send me a message with any questions you might have.

I will be using this bike on a trial basis to see if it is suitable for my needs, but also just to see if it is possible to make another go of this and to see if there is sufficient interest to make it a worthwhile venture. I will need the help of the wonderful community I so miss providing this service for!

Should all go well I will be needing to raise startup funds, primarily to buy the bike on a permanent basis and also to cover other costs for things like storage, equipment and insurance. I will be launching a Crowdfunder in the coming weeks and I would be hugely grateful if you could donate anything you can afford towards this.

So... hello everyone! 👋

Yes, that's right... I want to get the (one man) band back together!

Look at my daft little face... beaming... 😁 I really did love doing this job, so much so that after four months of not doing it I've decided that enough is enough and that I'm going to try and resurrect the e-cargo bike delivery service in the Calder Valley, albeit as a solo venture.

For those who don't already know me my name is Alex and I was a rider for Cargodale for just over four years until we sadly had to cease operations in January this year. Over the past few weeks I've been looking into ways at possibly bringing back the service as a sole trader, speaking to various people about potential partnerships and exploring ways to try and make it happen. I am delighted to say that this is now feeling close to becoming a reality and I hope to be back out on the road in the coming weeks! 🥳

I will be posting with further updates as I have them. I would be really interested to hear what people think about this - would you like to see the service return and is it something that you would use? I have spoken with previous clients about returning to use the service and I'm delighted that all have given me the green light, however it would be wonderful if I could possibly gauge the interest of other potential clients and customers.

We have one more ex-hire e-bike for sale. It's a Ridgeback Advance 1W in size M/L (would suit someone 5'6 to 6') bought new in April last year and well looked after.

It has a Shimano Steps motor, a 504Wh removable battery, front suspension, disc brakes, integrated lights and lock. Perfect for cruising the canal path or doing the grocery run.

Some sad news from us

At the start of 2026 we’ve taken the difficult decision to close Cargodale and its active travel offshoot, Todmorden Stroll and Roll .

From starting in 2020 as a self-funded project at the height of the pandemic, we went on to become a fully-fledged delivery service. Over 50 local businesses have used us for thousands of deliveries. We’ve also helped promote cargo bikes as a means of transport, and given many local folk their first hands-on experience with an e-bike. Other delivery services have credited us as an inspiration, and we’ve shown that bike delivery can work even in the brutally hilly South Pennines.

Sadly nearly six years on from lockdown, our overheads keep going up and the retail landscape could not be more different. So we’ve decided to park up our bikes for the last time.

We’d like to thank all our customers over the years, some of whom have used us from the very beginning right up to now. Our many wonderful staff - from eager volunteers to cheerfully dependable employees. And support from Calderdale Council and Todmorden Town Board which enabled us to turn a crazy idea into a business with tangible social benefits.

While there's no equivalent local bike delivery service, new Community Active Travel Hubs are coming to Hebden Bridge and Elland in 2026, which will help continue to support local people to walk and cycle more.
