I’m delighted that my work has been selected for the upcoming Emerging Contemporaries Exhibition.

Curated by Amelia Pethullis, with support from the Scott Creative Arts Foundation, the exhibition will bring together a selection of artists whose diverse and experimental practices reflect the breadth of contemporary art emerging in Yorkshire today.

The exhibition will be on display in the atmospheric Scarborough Market Hall Vaults from 14 August – 2 September.

What happens when artists come together to share not just finished work, but the thinking, experimentation, and questions behind it?

This weekend I was part of The Space Between at Hull Artist’s Research Initiative (HARI), exhibiting alongside MA and MFA students from the Universities of Hull and York St John.

It was a great opportunity to share our practices, learn from one another, and open up conversations about the research, process, and experimentation that so often sit behind the finished work. I came away with fresh perspectives on my own practice and a real appreciation for the value of making space for dialogue as well as making.

A huge thank you to HARI , my fellow exhibitors, and everyone who came to spend time with the work.

The exhibition explores the space between ideas and making, experimentation and understanding, capturing a moment of creative exchange and artistic growth.

This weekend sees the opening of the North Yorkshire Open Studios Summer Exhibition at Ampleforth Abbey.

I’ll be exhibiting a selection of my current works on paper which explore rhizomatic thinking through processes of connection, mapping and relation. Original works will be available to view and purchase, alongside my botanical prints and greeting cards.

You are invited to attend the Private View which takes place from 5 to 8pm on Friday, 10 July, the exhibition continues from Saturday 11 July to Sunday 19 July.

In the studio, with a couple of works in progress.

This is where the conversation begins. Before the work finds its final form, there is a period of looking, reflecting, and allowing rhizomatic thought to emerge. I follow lines of connection as they surface, tracing their movement and considering what the work is asking of me.

From there, I begin painting these emergent lines. They move across the surface like rivulets through a landscape, branching, converging, and generating new connections. Only then do I apply the copper leaf, not as a decorative finish, but as a way of fixing a moment within an evolving network of ideas, while leaving space for new connections to continue to unfold.
