Inside RTÉ: Upgrading Ireland’s National Radio Studios
RTÉ is Ireland’s public service broadcaster, producing and broadcasting programmes across television, radio and online services. With its radio service beginning in 1926, RTÉ is one of the world’s oldest continuously operated public service broadcasters.
Headquartered in Dublin, RTÉ operates four main television channels and four FM radio stations, as well as online radio and other services.
After a large-scale upgrade project beginning in 2023, the majority of RTÉ’s radio studios is the Calrec Type R broadcast console. Type R’s modular approach utilises standard networking hardware in combination with motorised fader banks and touch-screen software panels, which has made RTÉ’s studios more flexible than before.
We sat down with RTÉ’s Media Production & Infrastructure Manager Roland De Groot to chat about upgrading the studios as well as the advantages moving to both AoIP and a modular format has brought to RTÉ.
