BS 8214:2026: What does the updated standard mean for fire door threshold sealing? 🔥🚪

The latest version of BS 8214 was published in March 2026, replacing the 2016 standard and introducing updated guidance for fire-resisting and smoke control doors.

The updated guidance places greater emphasis on the smoke leakage performance of the complete door assembly, rather than treating the gap beneath the door separately.

Where smoke sealing is required, the threshold should be considered as part of the overall smoke control perimeter, with a suitable drop-down seal used where appropriate.
