Woodworking, skateboards and rock music! Living the dream!!

Restoring furniture is fun! 🙂

This one had a layer of glue (I suspect contact adhesive) that felt impossible to get off a few months ago. I’ve had this chest of drawers in the garage for over a year and have tried everything from chemicals, scarping and sanding to get this stuff off with no luck. So I grabbed the angle grinder, a sanding disc and and to work. All of the glue is now removed and I can now start making this into the piece I’ve been thinking about for a year! 🙂

Removing the graphic and vanish on some skateboards 🛹 🙂

This will become a bowl eventually and I can’t wait to show you it. However, each step of this process takes time. But that’s okay, I’m learning to slow down and really enjoy these moments in the shop. If things take time that just means they’ll come out even better 🙂

Well! It’s freezing in the uk! 🥶

That and being back at work and trying to get back into a normal routine means I haven’t been in the shop for a while.

So here’s me prepping some skateboards for a glue up. I love working with skateboards, the colours and the imperfections just make them so exciting as a material.

This will soon become a plate (the skate plate as I like to call it). If you want to see how I make these follow along 🙂

How did your first project of 2026 turn out? 😂

Mine didn’t go to plan!

To get back into the workshop and knock the cobwebs off I thought I’d make something nice and simple. A little bowl that would have a burnt finish.

It’s such a fun one to make because it’s simple, quick and you get to use a blow torch! However, I turned it way too thinly and after I burnt it I realised that it had warped, not by much but just enough that it was wobbling a bit.

I put some pressure on it and… CRACK!

That’s when I turned the camera back on and snapped it into firewood. These things happen. I still had fun, learnt a few things and got to use a blow torch!

Wishing far more success with your first project in 2026!

New year new wood burning 🔥 😍🪵

This is the first piece of 2026 and let’s hope it’s not an omen for the year ahead as it didn’t quite go to plan! In the new year I plan to make some really cool collections all from recycled materials, so follow along if you want to see more 🙂

Old video, but a good one!

Can’t wait to get back out into the shop when I’m not full of cheese and junk food! Merry Christmas 🎄

I wish finishing something was this easy! This will take another 4-5 coats of finish to get the sheen exactly where I want it.

What do you think? I love this piece, the deep dark black colours, the rich grain and the texture are a match made in heaven!!

Let me know what I should make next, or burn next 🙂🪵

Burning a bowl 🪵😍🔥

This is the bowl of a bowl I’m making. I’ve already burnt it once but I wanted a deeper colour and grain pattern so after removing the charcoal from the surface I burnt it again. As you can see this makes the surface almost jet black! The results of this are stunning so stick around to see this wood turned bowl come to life with finish on it 🙂

What’s better than burning a bowl once? Burning it twice, of course! 😍🔥🪵

I can’t really get the desired results after one go over with the blow torch. I’m guessing it’s because it’s not powerful enough, or maybe it’s my technique, any advice you have would be greatly appreciated 🙂

So after the first cycle, I use some scotch bright pad and a toothbrush to remove any charcoal on the surface and then burn it again. It gives a beautifully rich black colour that once cleaned up and oiled looks stunning!

I’ll be putting some videos together on how I made this piece in the next few days so stay tuned for some more content on this bowl 🙂

Burning the bottom of this bowl! 😍🔥🪵

Since you guys seemed to enjoy my last post (the amount of views that got was amazing thank you) here’s me burning the bottom of the bowl 🙂

Sadly the bottom did crack as I burnt this so I doubt this will be up for sale or anything any time soon, but it’s still fun to watch wood burn right?
