We've heard a lot about Odysseus this year and so it was a nice surprise to have a Welsh explorer, Matthew Myerscough, stop by on a recent visit to Hay.
A civil engineer and fossil hunter based in Cardiff, over the past five years Matthew has become well-known in the fossil-hunting community for making spectacular marine reptile discoveries on the beaches near his home. Follow in his footsteps using his guide, In Search of Sea Dragons (signed copies in the bookshop now).

Yesterday the Wainwright Prize 2026 winners were announced, including The Book of Birds by Jackie Morris and Robert Macfarlane, The Danger of Small Things by Caryl Lewis andThe Savage Landscape by Cal Flyn among other great books.
