DON'T RUN ON EMPTY!

This is what can be hiding at the bottom of a mower's fuel tank! 👀

Over time, dirt, rust, degraded fuel and other debris can accumulate in the tank. Regularly running the fuel level very low increases the chance of this contamination making its way into the fuel system, potentially blocking filters and the tiny passages inside the carburettor.

Our advice? Keep a sensible amount of fresh petrol in the tank during regular use, and avoid leaving old fuel sitting in the machine for long periods.

🌞 Not using your mower during the dry weather? Here's how to keep it ready to go.

With many lawns having stopped growing, lots of mowers are sitting in the shed for weeks at a time.

To help avoid problems when the rain finally returns:

• Start the engine every few weeks and let it run for 5 minutes.

• Store it somewhere dry and sheltered.

• Check the engine oil level before you use it again.

• If your petrol is more than 3 months old, it's worth getting a fresh can before your next mow. Stale fuel is one of the most common causes of starting and running issues.

• If your mower is due a service, now is an ideal time to get it done before everyone starts mowing again.

A little care now can help prevent starting problems and make sure your mower is ready to go when the grass starts growing again.

The prolonged dry spell has certainly taken its toll across Herefordshire.

If you do have the urge to mow, try raising your mower by a notch. Leaving the grass a little longer helps it retain moisture and cope better with the heat.

The petrol in this machine has degraded and left a jelly-like residue throughout the carburettor, restricting fuel flow and causing running issues.

Fresh fuel and proper storage make a huge difference to reliability.
