Yep you have heard that right!
Eight years ago this month I did a week of silence to raise money for a day centre for learning disabilities.
Even for someone like me who isn't the greatest of talkers, it a lot blooming harder than I anticipated.
Now 8 years on and a lot busier than I was back then, I am going to give it another go, to raise funds towards the refurbishment of our centre. We have done so well with the new training hall however we can not lose any motion now, especially with the winter months creeping in. Our new mission has to be to work on getting a heating system going and the parents waiting room kitted out.
During the week of silence I will not be sitting under a tree in silence meditating as the business still needs to be managed, I will be running the classes and will still be working at the centre as normal, well normalish as possible. Obviously with a lot of help from Bryony and the coaches.
Being silent for that amount of time brings up all sorts of challenges and really does make you think what it would be like to not be able to communicate verbally and also not to be understood by people.
We have a gofundme page set up if people would like to donate that way or if anyone would like to join Matt, then please grab a sponsor ship form from him or Bryony, it doesn't have to be for a week, just a day is challenging, or even an hour!
I wanted to do this challenge again because partly it is a great way to learn about yourself but mainly because I really appreciate how everyone is contributing to getting our centre up and running and being honest, I don't like asking for money so to make me feel better, lets do something totally weird and difficult.
If any of you have any links to certain press or media coverage, I would love to get this out there as much as possible.
The week of Silence is taking place from Sunday 31st October at 12 pm until Sunday 7th November 12 pm.
