A little clarity on Pokémon pack prices at Area 1-51.
We’ve received a message accusing us of “ripping kids off”, and I want to explain honestly why some packs cost more than others.
When we can buy standard Pokémon packs from our wholesalers at the usual wholesale price, we sell them at £4.29. Getting enough of that stock is the difficult part.
To keep Pokémon available, we also buy sealed products from customers and collectors. Those products are priced against their current market value—what people are actually paying for them—which can be considerably higher than the original retail price.
We pay the seller an agreed percentage of that value, then price the stock to leave a margin that covers our costs and keeps the shop running. A pack bought from a collection can cost us more than £4.29 before it even reaches our shelves.
We understand the frustration with Pokémon prices. We’d love reliable supplies at normal wholesale prices too. But buying collections means we can offer stock that we otherwise wouldn’t have available.
Nobody has to buy a pack they feel is too expensive, and you’re always welcome to ask us about a price. We’re happy to explain.
On a personal note, the accusation does hurt. We put a huge amount into this shop and into supporting local children, including donating toys and gifts and giving away Pokémon products throughout the year. That doesn’t put us above criticism, but being accused of deliberately taking advantage of children is something I take seriously.
Please ask us about our pricing before assuming the worst. There are real people behind this independent shop, working hard to build something Hereford can enjoy.
